Teaching Aims:
to reveal the ways humans and animals can communicate
to guess the meaning of sounds and sign language
to express agreement using So/ Neither
to extract certain information out of a listened fragment
to encourage pupils to communicate in English
to better cooperate and communicate in a group

Learning Aims:
to be able to give examples of ways of communication
to know how to express agreement in a conversation
to listen to a conversation for a specific purpose
to be able to speak in English and work in a group
Assumptions:
Pupils are familiar to the ways animals and humans can
communicate
Pupils should know to listen to a conversation for a specific
purpose
Pupils should be able to speak in English and work in a group
Pupils should be familiar to expressing agreement

Anticipated Problems:

Some students may have difficulties in understanding
the listened conversation
Some students may not fully be able to express
agreement
Some students may not be able to answer the questions
related to the listened information
Interaction: TPs,PP, PT
Class Management:
The classroom provides the necessary environment for
working in groups
There will be textbooks on Pupils desks and a cassette
recorder on Ts desk
Attending Strategies:
Ts role: conductor, standing front centre for
presentation or crouching next to a group of Ps during
controlled practice
Ts attitude: moves around the class, keeps eye- contact
but also encourages Ps to speak
T always corrects Ps mistakes

Evaluation: Initial - through warm-up activity


Continue- observation, activities, analyses of answers
Final- oral, homework

Objectives: to check the Ps homework and correct them if necessary

Procedure:
The T greets the Ps, asks for absentees and puts questions related to their
homework. The Ps answer the questions and the T corrects them if necessary.

Initial Practice
Activity One: Pre- Listening
Objectives: to express their opinion about the way people can communicate.
Class management:Whole-Class
Timing: 3
Procedure: Ps have to match the gestures to their meaning and give examples of other
ways people can communicate.

Activity Two: Listening


Objectives: to listen for a specific purpose, to extract information that complete the
chart in the textbook.
Class management:whole- class
Timing: 3
Procedure: Ps listen to a conversation in order to find ways humans and animals
communicate and complete the chart.

Activity Three: Post- Listening


Objectives: to make use of the sign language
Class management: Group- work
Timing: 10
Procedure: Each group receives a message on a piece of paper and tries to use sign
language to make their classmates understand the message. The message is reported to
the teacher.

Activity Four: Pre- Listening
Objectives: to express their opinion about talking on the phone
Class management:Whole - Class

Procedure: Ps look at the picture and answer the questions
Do you like talking on the phone? How long do you usually talk on the phone?
Activity Five: Listening
Objectives: to listen for a specific purpose
Class management: Whole - Class

Procedure: Ps have the task of listening to a phone conversation and say if each
sentence is true or false.

Activity Six: Post- Listening


Objectives: to focus on certain parts of the phone conversation
Class management: whole class

Procedure: Ps listen to a certain part of the conversation, fill in the blanks and notice
the way agreement can be expressed, the way So and Neither are used.
