Recently Discovered Titanic Menu Going to Auction

Found among her mother's belongings, an unexpected inheritance that may bring $60,000.

Monroe, CT, September 07, 2017 --(PR.com)-- A recently discovered menu from the Titanic is going to
auction, where it's estimated to bring $40,000 to $60,000. The menu appeared at a routine appraisal event
held by Connecticut auctioneer Fairfield Auction last month. Found among a slew of papers while
cleaning out her mother's estate, the consignor has no idea where her mother acquired the menu.
Nonetheless, it will make a unexpected inheritance.

The first-class dining room luncheon menu, dated April 15th, 1912, listed corned beef, grilled mutton
chops, dumplings and other savory items. It was found with a painted landscape on the reverse, possibly
executed while still on the doomed ship.

Any surviving materials like this would have been carried aboard the lifeboats in vest pockets or purses,
so you can understand why so few exist today, commented gallery owner, Jack DeStories. A few other
surviving Titanic menus have come to auction in recent years. The last one, a dinner menu from the same
day, sold for just over $118,000 at an auction in Texas in 2015.

The R.M.S. Titanic, which was the largest ship afloat at the time and deemed unsinkable, sailed on her
maiden voyage from Southhampton with 2224 passengers and crew on April 12th. She struck an iceberg
in the early morning hours of April 15th and sank less than three hours afterwards. Only 705 survived.

Fairfield Auction of Monroe, Connecticut is offering the menu as part of a 500 lot online estate auction
which will be open for bidding September 22nd through 27th. at http://www.fairfieldauction.com.
