What is a Hackathon?
Hackathon is an event where curious people get together to work on developing
software projects in a short amount of time. Participants typically start by brainstorming
on a theme based problem, they get an idea, plan it, and implement the solution for it.

What is HackSprint?
HackSprint is an annual Hackathon organised by Design and Innovation Group.
University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Like any other hackathon, HackSprint has a vision to provide tech enthusiasts a
platform to come and show off their skills by building solutions to the challenging real life
problems in a limited time frame. The competitive environment of HackSprint itself is so
inspiring, that even the newbies return home learning a lot of stuff.

What is HackSprint v2.0?


HackSprint v2.0 is the successor of the HackSprint v1.0 which took place last year in
the month of November. The great response and feedback from the participants has
inspired us to organise this mega event again this year with more vigour, passion and
enthusiasm.

I have no experience in coding, Can I still participate ?


The very heart and soul of Hackathons is to bring new people into the technology world.
Even if you dont know how things work or where to start from, you can seek guidance
from the mentors present at the venue to get started. A Hackathon provides the perfect
environment for you to learn how to code quickly. All you have to do is try something
and the experience automatically follows.

When and where would HackSprint v2.0 be organised?

Duration of Hackathon: 12 hours

How can I participate?


You can participate in a team of at most 4 members.

Is there any fee I need to pay to participate?


Yes, to participate you are required to pay INR 100 per team member. Registration Fee
can be paid online through our website (http://bitly.com/hacksprintv2) or at our
Registration Desk in Block - 2, UIET, Chandigarh, Panjab University.

How many teams would be participating in HackSprint v2.0 ?


The registration to HackSprint v2.0 would be on first-come first-serve basis. First 45
registered teams would get chance to compete in the hackathon.

The event will go on for whole night. Is there any preparation for food done for
the participants?
Yes, we have arranged for a dinner for the participants at the venue. Moreover, there
would be snacks and coffee provided.

What should carry along with me ?


Laptops and related accessories, though we provide you with food, you can carry some
stuff that suits best to your needs. If possible carry a power extension cable with you.

Which programming language, framework or API can I put into use?


The choice is upto you, there is no restriction to the use of technology, but you should
know why you chose that at the first place.
What would be the theme for the HackSprint v2.0?
Theme for the hackathon would be revealed on the spot.

5:00 PM Team Reporting and Registration
6:30 PM - 7:00 PM Short intro to HackSprint v2.0
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Brainstorming Session
8:00 PM - 9:30 PM Dinner
9:30 PM - 7:00 AM (September 14th) Hacking Time
7:00 AM - 8:20 AM Final Presentations (* refer to #8 in the Event Flow section)

Event Flow

Going as per the event - timeline presented above the event flow would be as follows :-
1. Teams report at the venue, register themselves at the desk, collect food
coupons, swag, stationery etc.
2. DIG introduces the teams with HackSprint v2.0, brief about the rules, explain the
theme, guide the teams with the eventflow.
3. Teams brainstorm about the idea and document the same in form of a PPT (The
template for the PPT would be provided to the teams)
4. Before starting with the Hacking session dinner would be served in order to get
the participants charged up for the whole night.
5. Finally, the participants begin to build their hacks.
6. During the long hacking session, participants can seek the help of mentors
present at the venue.
7. The progress of the teams would be judged meanwhile the hackathon would be
running. Judges would be visiting the teams numerous times during the
hackathon and analyse the teams as per the judgement criteria mentioned
below, awarding points to them as per their performance/progress at the time of
the judgement.
8. Teams would be shortlisted for the final presentations based on the points scored
by them at the different phases of judgements.
9. Meanwhile the final presentations would going on, the teams would be asked to
give their feedback of the overall event.
10. Winners would be announced and prizes would be distributed.

Judgement Criteria

During the length of the hackathon, teams would be judged in different phases, which
are as follows:

Phase 1 (Five hours after the hacking begins)


During this phase the teams would be judged on the basis of the progress they have
made and the direction in which they are working.

Phase 2 (Three hours after the Phase 1)


This phase would be the ice-breaker and teams would be shortlisted for the final
presentations after this phase. Top performing teams would be given chance to present
at the finale.

Phase 3 (During the Final Presentation)


This would the final judgement phase during which the overall performance of the
shortlisted teams would be evaluated based upon the how they present their hack with
respect to the following factors

1. Innovation : How different the idea behind the solution is?


2. Feasibility : Upto what extent the solution is relevant keeping the real-life
implementation in mind?
3. Completeness: What percentage of the hack was completed during the whole
duration of the Hackathon?
4. Future Scope: Is the product capable enough to have a sizeable market/use in
future?

The judges will give points to each of the criterion and the average of your scores of
each judge would be used to select the winners

Second Prize 5,000 INR
