Our Mission Statement: At Lord Byng Secondary our goal is to provide a safe learning

In-class writing is a major component of

The New Curriculum:

BCs New Curriculum for English Language Arts is based around 3 Core
Competencies: Communication, Thinking, & Personal/Social.
In my classroom we will be working on these Competencies and the Five Big Ideas
which support them. As always, I will work toward curricular competencies with all
of my students placing critical thinking at the fore as each student works toward
his/her mastery of skills learned and taught.

Working with a Tutor: Guidelines for working with tutors are available upon
request. Tutors are NOT permitted to work on the actual material that the student
will be submit to the teacher for assessment.
Cheating, which includes plagiarism, is a
serious offence and will result in a score of
zero. Helping someone cheat is also cheating.
Students and their parent(s)/guardian(s) are required
to read and sign the handout on plagiarism provided by
Ms. Hughes' and return it n0 later than October 1st of
the current school year.
Unexcused absences: parents and students need
to familiarize themselves with policies and procedures
at Lord Byng, particularly those regarding missed work.
Please read and understand these as they will be
followed; they can be found in your childs student
agenda and on the school website.

Creative Writing 12 is an elective course that provides students with opportunities
to explore and expand their creative writing; as your children have selected this
course, it is my expectation that they enjoy spending time with the written word and
possess a willingness to explore a variety of genres. Daily journal writing, guided
practice, project work, and self-directed assignments make up each terms
curriculum. Students will learn basic book binding techniques and make their own
journals; this skill in book arts will provide students a means to enjoy self-publishing
and other creative projects should they choose, both now and in the future.
This course has the more relaxed structure of other creative courses, a freedom
within structure; students need to be organized and focused to meet deadlines.
No work will be provided for a student going on a
vacation, family trip, etc; it will be up to the student to
make up any allowable work upon return; I will not be
able to reteach your child what he/she has missed while
away from class due to an unexcused absence.
