2. I chose the first article because i was looking for a setup identical to
the lewis bending equation boundary conditions so as to solve for the
bending stress variation. Lewis assumes the tooth to be a cantilerver
beam with a force Ft applied to the tip of the gear which is what is
detailed in the article. However, he is performing a Bending Stress
Analysis & Optimization of Spur Gear while we are aiming for the
bending stress variations as a function of pressure angle and module.
The second article is about Stress analysis of spur gear drive using
finite element method by varying pressure angle. I chose this article
to see an intial trend in the bending stress variations with module and
pressure angle. Its conclusion is that teeth with higher pressure angle
have better performance than common pressure angles of 14.5 and 20
degree for shear stress minimization. Analaysis and preliminary work of
the research plan also confirms this. The third article was used to test
if the model was actually correct and working properly. Once thesame
values were obtained, Analysis on bending stress could begin.

3. For the first article, a Force Ft is applied to the tip of the gear tooth
of 6000 lbf in the negative x-direction. The inner rim of the gear is a
fixed support. A fine mesh is generated and Optimization geometries
are applied. Everything before the geometry optimization is applicable
in our case. For the second article, the gears are mated together and
a moment is applied to one gear while the other is a fixed support.
The contact type is frictionless, the Contact Formulation is Augmented
Lagrange and the interface treatment is adjust to touch. A Fine mesh

is generated and von-mises stresses are solved for. Both bending and
contact stresses can be observed. The third article is exactly the same
setup as the second article exept for the values of the parameters like
force and gear design. A step by step calculation is provided for the
contact stress. the bending stress can be obtained from the ansys result
bending stress variation.

4. The articles you have selected have confirmed my planned data collec-
tion and analysis approaches in the sense that they prove gears with
higher module and pressure angles have less bending stress compared
to gears with lower modules and pressure angles.
