System analysis is an in depth study of all important aspects of both future system and existing
system. It is a thinking process and it usually involves creativity. It is one of the first things to do in
creating a new efficient system, satisfying the current needs of the client and can be further improved
within the said limits when needed.
One of the main objectives of system analysis is to find answers to the following questions: What
is being done; How is it being done; Who is doing it; When is he doing it; Why is it being done; And how
can it be improved. A logical system design will be the result of system analysis.
The process of planning a new system, replacing an old system, or improving a current system to
meet the clients requirements is called system design. In this process, the logical system design is
converted into a physical system design (what the actual system would look like).
System design has two stages, preliminary design and structured design. In preliminary, the
features of the new system are specified, the cost of implementing these features are also estimated. If the
desired system is possible, then proceed to the structured design. All the details: input, output, databases,
the programming language and the hardware and software platform will be discussed in the structured
design. It is the blueprint of the solution to the problem given by the client.
