Outline Drawings in 3D
Component level (frames, crosshead guides, cylinders with head end devices) 3D Outlines (solid
models) are now available from Ariel. These models are available for download in Acis (*.sat), STEP
(*.stp), or Parasolid (*.x_t) file formats. These models are accessed via the Ariel Performance Program
(v. 7.6.1.0).

The file types need to be chosen in the Drawing Format drop down under File Locations. See Setting
File Types below.

Assembling the frames and cylinders in your 3D software is discussed in the Proper Usage of 3D
Outline Drawings, see below:

Available Models:

All frame and crosshead guide 3D Outlines are completed and available. Most of the 3D outlines of
ET:T:K:C:D:U:Z cylinders are available. Please contact Ariel when additional 3D Outline drawings are
needed.

Additional Information or Support:

Please contact: productdrawings@arielcorp.com if you require any additional information.

Setting File Types:

To download the proper file type, the Ariel Performance Program must be configured as follows:

Open Ariel DataBook or Ariel Performance Program (v. 7.6.1.0) select VIEW from the menu bar
select FILE LOCATIONS from the dropdown box select the 3D Format. The selected setting will be
saved to your computer.

Downloading 3D Outlines

There are several ways to access 3D Outlines (and 2D Outlines). They are available via the Ariel
DataBook or the Ariel Performance Program. 3D Outlines are not yet available from the Ariel web site.

Proper Usage of 3D Outline Drawings:

Ariel Corporation supplies the SL prefix 3D Outline models to be used in conjunction with the 2D
outline drawings. To be able to utilize these models, the CAD package that you use must support the
importing of Acis (*.sat), STEP (*.stp), or Parasolid (*.x_t) file formats. The following is a chart of
common CAD applications and the format we have found to work best on import:

AutoCAD (AutoCAD LT is not supported) Acis (*.sat)

Solid Edge Parasolid
(*.x_t)
Autodesk Inventor STEP (*.stp)
Solid Works Parasolid
(*.x_t)
Pro-E STEP (*.stp)

If your CAD application is not listed above please refer to your product documentation to find available
formats that you can open/import. If a model is not currently available for download, you may request
it, by submitting an Ariel Performance program run file or an Ariel order number with a description of
which model you require by email to productdrawings@arielcorp.com.

(The colored surfaces within the figures of this document are for presentation purposes, they do not
represent the actual surfaces of the solid models as the colors may vary.)

After inserting the frame component and the distance piece component assemble them using the
following rules. Mate the blue flat face on the distance piece (Figure 2) with the blue flat face on the
frame (Figure 1) with a 0.00 gap. Align the axis of the green cylindrical face on the distance piece
(Figure 2) with the axis of the green cylindrical face on the frame (Figure 1). Align the axis of the red
cylindrical face on the distance piece (Figure 2) with the axis of the red cylindrical face on the frame
(Figure 1). This will fully assemble the two components together (Figure 3). Next, insert and assemble
the remaining distance piece components to the frame component.

Assembling Cylinder with Distance Piece:

After inserting the cylinder component into the assembly containing your frame and distance piece
components assemble them using the following rules. Mate the blue flat face on the cylinder (Figure 5)
with the blue flat face on the distance piece (Figure 4) with a 0.00 gap. Align the axis of the green
cylindrical face on the cylinder (Figure 5) with the axis of the green cylindrical face on the distance
piece (Figure 4). Align the axis of the red cylindrical face on the cylinder (Figure 5) with the axis of the
red cylindrical face on the distance piece (Figure 4). This will fully assemble the two components
together. Next, insert and assemble the remaining cylinder components to the distance piece
component.

After inserting the distance piece support component into the assembly containing your distance piece
component assemble them using the following rules. Mate the blue flat face on the distance piece
support (Figure 7) with the blue flat face on the distance piece (Figure 6) with a 0.00 gap or a gap to
expected shim size. Align the axis of the green cylindrical face on the distance piece support (Figure 7)
with the axis of the green cylindrical face on the distance piece (Figure 6). Align the axis of the red
cylindrical face on the distance piece support (Figure 7) with the axis of the red cylindrical face on the
distance piece (Figure 6). This will fully assemble the two components together (Figure 8).
