FAKULTI KEJURUTERAAN MEKANIKAL

COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING

BMCG 2513 SEMESTER 2 SESI 2016/2017

1.0 OBJECTIVES

The aim of this module is to introduce and familiarize the student to

the 3D solid modeling by using Computer Aided Design (CAD).
Students will be taught to build parametric models of parts and
assemblies and how to make drawings of those parts and assemblies.
Students will be guided to perform CAM coding such as G-code to
their design. The CAM simulation will also be exposed to the students
for better understanding in order to relates with the machines tool
paths by using the CAM coding system.

2.0 LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this course, students should be able to:

LO1. Acquire and apply fundamental sketching and feature modeling,
build feature based models of parts and assemblies for easy
editing.
LO2. Produce document design intent of parts and assemblies in
manufacturing drawings.
LO3. Design and develop products effectively through the applications
of engineering design methodology.

3.0 SYNOPSIS

This course will empower the students with fundamental knowledge

and technical skills of 3D solid modeling skills using industry-proven
3D mechanical CAD software. The students will learn about the
different techniques for creating solid models and surface with
emphasis on design intent. The students will expose to the
introduction to CAM coding such as G-codes and its simulation in
order to generate tool paths that drive the machines which convert
the designs into physical parts . The course includes hands-on

5.0 COURSE CONDUCTS/IMPLEMENTATIONS

Students will learn this subject and practice producing engineering

drawing skills using either Solidworks or CATIA software in the
Computer Aided Design Studio. Students will be guided during these
hours by doing exercises and solving the given tutorials. Students will
also prepare the mini project in the lab during this period.
