Problem : Convert 1000 mm WC (gauge

pressure) to mm HG to kPa to psi to psia

Solution:
1 mm WC = 0.073 mm Hg
1000 mm WC = 73 mm Hg
1 mm Hg = 0.1332 kPa
73 mm Hg = 9.72 kPa
1 kPa = 0.145 psi
9.72 kPa = 1.40 psi
Psia = Gauge + Absolute = 14.7 + 1.40 = 16.1 psia
Temperature
The atmospheric temperature lapse rate is expressed as : Tatm = 288 - 6.5 103 z,
where z is the elevation in meters. How cold is it outside an airplane at 12,000 m
expressed in Kelvin and in Celsius?
For an elevation of z = 12 000 m we get

Tatm = 288 - 6.5 103 z = 210 K

To express that in degrees Celsius we get

TC = T 273.15 = 63.15oC

The temperature at which book paper burns = 451 F

Convert 451 F to Celcius 232 Celcius

Convert 232C to Kelvin Convert 505 Kelvin

Convert 505K to Kelvin 909 Rankine
