Faculty, DEEE
School of Engineering
University of San Carlos

Dear Engr. Daculan,

A good day to you sir!

It has been a long time since I last wrote you a letter. Many had happened these past few weeks
which are essential for our development as an engineering student. In line with the previous
films shown in the class last week, which were about climate change and coral bleaching as an
effect of the warming of the ocean, I got confused whether climate change is really happening or
maybe it just happened because it already happened thousands of years back then. It seems
like, these kind of events or change are occurring every thousand years. Not because of
humans oblivion to the environment, thats why we just keep on doing things that contribute to
the destruction of our planet.
One thing that bothers me most is climate change. Many are claiming that there is climate
change and its a real thing, especially that most of them are scientists and professors from
different Universities. They have proofs and evidences that our weather nowadays is
unpredictable, as a result hurricanes and typhoons are much stronger where they are already in
category 4 and 5. Recent hurricane Irma is considered to be one of the strongest hurricane that
hits the western part of the planet. It destroyed a lot of homes and establishments as the
international news reported. But how will we know that there is really climate change, the fact
that rare phenomena are occurring, for instance global coral bleaching. The effect of global
warming is so devastating that our ecosystem is slowly dying and has become out of balance.
When I saw the film chasing corals, it made me realize that the world is fantastic and it needs
our help. It has been crying for help but we are busy with our own business. Corals are
remarkable creatures because they have their own ecosystem. But because we cannot see
their real beauty, they are hidden beneath, we always take them for granted. I salute the people
who sacrificed their time and exerted a lot of efforts in making ways to capture things such as
the beauty of corals underneath the ocean before they become extinct.
Its a shame that in our watch, many will perish and will cease to exist. These coral bleaching is
a warning for us that me made a lot of mistake while ruling this vast planet. The least we can do,
since it already happened is to prevent such thing to happen again in the future. It may require a
lot of time and effort but I know, someday our hardwork will pay off.

Respectfully yours,
