SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT

STUDENT CONTRACT 2017-2018

1. Attendance:
Students must attend each class, and come on time. All work missed must be made up to the satisfaction of the
class teacher. Students are responsible for getting assignments from another person in class. Students are
responsible for all assignments on Pupil Path.

2. Homework and Previous Classwork:

Each student is responsible for each homework assignment. Students are expected to be able to recognize and
remember important facts, and dates given in class and homework. A lost book is not acceptable as an excuse
for missing homework.

3. Class Notes:
Each student must have and keep an up-to-date notebook of class notes. These notes should be kept neat and
organized. You should also have a folder for handouts.

4. Exams and Quizzes:

The passing grade for any exam is 65. Students who are absent from an exam or quiz will be required to take a
make-up exam when they return to school.

5. Behavior:
Proper behavior is expected in each class. Hats, cell phones, and any other electronic devices are not permitted
in class. If seen, these items will be confiscated. Class disruptions will not be tolerated.

6. Lost Books:
The penalty for a lost book will be the current cost of the book. Books must be returned at the end of the
semester to your teacher.

7. Grades:
Grades are based on the following 40% class work and participation; 40% assessments; 10% homework; 10%
portfolio. The grade will be based on these percentages, provided that all the areas were covered. For example,
having a passing grade in some areas, but missing homework or a Final Exam may result in a failing grade.
In every REGENTS ending course, the Rubric will reflect that the Final Grade will include 20% of the
students REGENTS Score.

8. Goals:
Students will be provided with individualized Learning Goals to assist them in being successful in Social Studies.
Students will reference these goals to monitor their progress, and determine their class grade.
