MATH 151 CALCULUS I

Thomson/Brooks.Cole Publishing, 2015 You will use Webassign, an online homework
system, which you access through Course Tools on Blackboard. This course is
participating in the Course Materials Initiative so your textbook is digital and provided
through VitalSourceBookshelf. You can access your e-book through almost any
electronic device. Information is provided under START HERE/Technical Requirements
about creating your Bookshelf account.

BLACKBOARD is the main place I will use to communicate with you this semester.
Check it regularly.

TESTING AND GRADING: The usual 90-80-70-60 % grading system will be used in
this course. Time spent outside of class on this course will be between 12 and 15 hours
per week. MINIMUM!

POSSIBLE POINTS ARE AS FOLLOWS

Best 10 homeworks @ 10 points each = 100 points


Best 8 quizzes @ 25 points each = 200 points
3 Exams @ 100 points each = 300 points
1 Final Exam @ 200 points = 200 points

TOTAL = 800 points

THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP QUIZZES! The lowest 3 quizzes


will be dropped so there will be NO make-up quizzes. Homework will be assigned and
done on-line through WEBASSIGN, and will be due each evening before a quiz or
before an exam. There will be NO extensions for homework. The lowest 4 homework
scores will be dropped. Make-up exams will be given at my discretion and provided I
have been notified prior to the scheduled time of the exam that you will be unable to
attend. Leave messages at 410-455-2425 or on my email above. The make-up time will
be arranged using email. No calculators will be required during this course but may be
used for homework but not on tests and quizzes.

GETTING HELP

There are many places to receive help with this course.

There is the Math Lab in the Library where you can drop in and get help with all 100
level math classes as well as the algebra and trigonometry subjects you are expected to
know for this course.

There is CASTLE which is where TAs, another lecturer and I help students on Friday
afternoons from 3:00-6:00.

Quizzes will be given during discussion class on each Wednesday.

The Final Exam for this course is given as a common final exam, which means that all
Math 151 students take the same exam at the same time so look it up under COMMON
FINAL EXAMS on the registrars website. There will be no make ups for the final exam
so be certain to make no plans to leave campus at the end of the term until you know
when your final will be given.
