My Promise

My goal this year is to prepare you for 8th grade and high school. Starting NOW, Im
going to ask you to try everything. TRY! You may initially hate that Im challenging you in
ways that perhaps, you feel are unfair. However, I will tell you that my expectations are
high because YOU CAN DO IT! Si, se puede!

Everything you will learn is to achieve mastery in a skill set. These skills become building
blocks which, after 7th grade, have created the foundation for you to be successful in life,
high school and ultimately college! You will demonstrate mastery of these skills through
countless mathematical assignments. To help ensure your success, you will be provided
with requirements and expectations for all assignments at the time they are assigned.

Respect

The bottom line is be respectful! Disrespect will not be tolerated in room 312.

Respect yourself: ABSOLUTELY NO cursing or swearing. It is not cute, please do

not do it.
Take your learning seriously: Im here for you. If you dont care, we are on a
sinking ship together!
Acknowledge you're overwhelmed: Its ok to say, Im struggling . . . because we
all do. Im going to ask you for A LOT of positivity, energy, and effort. If you begin
to struggle, talk to me! I cannot read your mind.
Respect yourself enough to work on you every day. When you dont try, youre
disrespecting yourself and your potential. Dont put yourself down! Its not
necessary. I dont care what your reputation was or if you think you cant read or
solve problems very well. But you know what? No ones perfect! Youre in school
to learn. Lets do this!
Dont let others bring you down to their level. If someone calls you a name, its
infuriating! Who are they, right? But we have to learn to control our impulses to
shout back or fight physically. Instead, we need to say in our hearts and heads
that whoever is calling the names is the one with the problem. Why else would
s/he be so in your business?
Respect others: There is a saying that reminds me to check myself before I wreck
myself: Everyone is fighting a hard battle. Respect differences. Shoes, clothes,
hair, voice, writing, walk, difficulty, etc. I will not demonstrate negative actions,
words, or body language towards our Orozco family. If you have that much to
say, Im clearly not giving you enough work! That being said, I will NOT tolerate
any form of bullying. Life is hard enough, so just be nice to your fellow buddy
because you never know what s/he may be going through. We need to be each
others cheerleaders. If you are being bullied or witness bullying taking place, you
are to complete a bullying form in the main office. And, can obviously talk to me
about whats going---I hope that goes without saying.
Respect time, space, and belongings: We do not need to use our class time to have
social discussions or talk about what happened last night, at lunch, on Snapchat,
over text, etc. Lets keep it about the work, at work!
Please maintain a positive classroom environment. Watch your volume and clean
up after yourself! This is our little learning home. Lets not take it for granted!

Rewards: Classroom Dojo

Student participation and behavior will be tracked using Classroom Dojo. We will
determine our class rewards and incentives for positive behavior. Academy day will be
awarded to students every Friday who do not have any SDRs for that week.
