Summary
Superintendents, building, and district leaders from CESA #1 will reconvene for an
innovative thought leadership and professional development event to explore
ways to Cultivate the Courage to Lead and develop leadership capacity needed
to transform public education.

Featuring
Melissa Krull, Associate Professor at Minnesota State University, Mankato and
former superintendent.

Intended Outcomes
Provide a structured and interactive opportunity to discuss how to develop
the leadership needed to transform public education
Develop a professional network and dialogue with innovative educational
leaders
Provide feedback/input on CESA #1 Whitepaper on Leadership and

KEYNOTE BIO
Dr. Melissa Krull
Dr. Melissa Krull has an extensive background in serving
in leadership capacities of a 10,000 student school
district for the past 20 years.
Dr. Krull earned her undergraduate degrees at St. Cloud
State University and her masters degree in education
from the University of Minnesota. She received her
Doctorate of Philosophy in Education, Comprehensive
Specialization in Work, Family, and Community from the
University of Minnesota.

She recently finished her work in Eden Prairie Schools after 28 years in the
district with 10 years as superintendent. She is widely known for recently
leading and completing a school integration initiative which intentionally
eliminated racial and low income segregation for all elementary students in
the district while significantly narrowing achievement gaps within the district.

Currently, Dr. Krull is an associate professor for Minnesota State University


Mankato teaching educational leadership graduate courses for incoming
school principals and superintendents. She co-leads an Institute in the Twin
Cities titled, The Institute for Courageous Principal Leadership, which focuses
on developing racially conscious school leaders. She consults with school
districts on equity initiatives to intentionally eliminate racial achievement,
teaching and leadership gaps in schools. She continues to follow her passion
for public schools and leadership by building stronger communities for equity
and social justice in Minnesota and around the country.
