36. ADVERTISING

Advertising is a form of mars communication. It involves a process of transmission of information by

the manufacturer or a seller of product. Advertising can be any form of presentation such as sing, symbol
or illustration in print media, a commercial on radio or television; past in etc. advertising also helps in
the development of the society as it increases consumption, raises the standard of living and improves
the quality of life of people. Today, there are many industries which spend a heavy amount of
advertising. AS far as the medium of advertisement compared, the still remains the favorite. Television,
due to spurt of cable channels is fast becoming as attractive medium. My favorite advertisement is of
memory improvement course advertised by Tele-brands Company. I saw this advertisement this
advertisement on television. Like the thing I like most in the advertisement was that they were not
advertising of around is minutes. The cost of the course was very less. They guarantee that after going
through their course, you will learn now the minds work. They said you would be able to remember lot
to things much better then before. After watching the advertisement, I noted their address and item code
to order their address and item code to order the course. Next day, posted them the letter to send me the
product. The product was delivered to me just two weeks ago and l half gone through the course and it
really improved my understanding. I think the product was worth the money spent by me so I don't have
to regret for spending money.

37. MY FAVOURITE MOVIE

My favorite movie is "Dil To Pagal Hai". I have seen this movie so many times in theater as well as in
TV at home. This movie is a romantic movie. I like this movie because my favorite actor and actress
acted in this movie. This is a sober movie. And there is no place for vulgarity in this movie. There are
also more comedy scenes in it. It has melodious music. Beautiful sceneries are also picture init. In this
film the hero is a music director. He does music show. He draws a character of 'Maya' in his imagination.
He looks for girls who can fit in this character and the actress got fitted in the role. There are so many
dance sequences in it. And I have learnt so many dance steps. This film shows the difference between the
friendship and love. It shows that-matches are made in heaven. God has made someone for everyone. It
shows the importance of marriage. Hero does not believe to marriage but the love of heroine makes her
realize the value of marriage. It shows love is not just an attraction. It comes from the care of the heart.
Love makes the life beautifully. It can change the view of a man towards the things. It gives internal
peace. True love is not a love for body and it can never be hide and it will be succeed. It is a purposeful
movie. It is full of humorous situation. Dialogues are forceful. Choreography is very good. Whenever I
am in a bad mood, I watch this movie. I have CD of this movie.
16. COLOUR

People usually think that life without color is dull and meaningless. Our nature is full of monotonous
colors. Sky is blue, earth is green, and sea is also planet. Our earth is also called blue. Because earth's
surface contains 75% water. The basic colours are Red, Green and Blue. Mixing these colours is proper
proportion can make other colours. When a ray of light passes through prism, it disperses into seven
different colours. That is Red, Green, Blue, YeIlow Orange, Violet. Colours have different significance
in different cultures. Mostly, green is the symbol of Prosperity, white is the symbol of peace, red is the
symbol of danger and also symbol of love. Red, Green, White are also symbol of National Flat. Today,
young like to wear bright colour clothes but the old people prefer dull colours. Coulors preference also
changes according to seasons. In winter, people wear dark colour clothes, but in summer, people prefer
light colour clothes. Yellow colour is the symbol of spring season because in this season, flowers grow to
maximum and gardens are filled with yellow colour flowers. In our culture, we also celebrate Basant
Panchmi as a festival during spring season. During this day, people wear yellow clothes, they eat yellow
rice and children fly kites of colours. Children also purchased of yellow colour. Goddess Saraswati is
worship on this day. This festival makes the end of winters. Holi is the most colourful festival of all
because It is specifically the festival of colours. Its historical Importance is that It celebrates the victory
of Prahlad over the evil forces. In this festival, people throw colours on each another and give each other
gifts.

Which type of colour the people want to wear?

Different types of the people have different type of preference for colours.

How colours affect personality of people?

In different cultures, colours symbolize different, view. In our society, wearing bright colour clothes
means is the symbol of affluence, jubilation and young age, and older people prefer to wear dull colour
clothes. It shows that preference for colours changes according to maturity of mind. Widows are wearing
black and white colours clothes. Some people say that Holi is commemorated in honor of Lord Krishna
who killed a cruel demon on this day and filled the life of people with ecstasy.

Which is your favorite color?

I like most colour but a few of my favourites are red and yellow. They are very bright colours and I like
to wear them
What do they represent?

Red represents passion. It is also a symbol of anger, whereas yellow represents happiness. It is colour of
the sunflower that is a beautiful flower and symbolizes the sun. Yellow is responsible for a cheerful
mood.

What do you know about colours?

I know that colours have a direct effect on the mood of people. They are responsible for the energy and
motivation levels of people in effects. Bright colours have a rejuvenating effect on the human mind and
dull colours bring about lethargy. People are becoming more and more aware of the colours and their
results. That is why they taking special interest in the colours they use for their walls in the house. Some
people also pay special attention to the colours they wear. They think it can affect their luck but I think
such notions are baseless.

Does colour have any cultural significance?

Colours have always been associated with culture. The colour red signifies celebration like marriage and
puja ceremonies. White signifies mourning and black is considered unlucky. Saffron is an important
national colour.

Does the preference of colour change with age?

Yes, I think the preference of colours changes, as you grow older. As children, we are always made to
wear extremely bright clothes because they look good on children. When we grow older, we realize our
own preferences and develop a few favourites. Young people are not very finicky about the colours they
wear. As reach adulthood, we start dressing up according to the requirements of our workplace and
gradually we start wearing sober colours. Old people are usual seen in colours like gray, brown and
white: although there are few exceptions.
31. CO-EDUCATION
Co-education is one of the very important questions that have always disturbed our educational
conditions. Co-education means that there should be no separate school for boys and girls. There are
different options
on the subject of Co-education. Supporters of this form of education give the examples of the Western
countries where this system was introduced years ago and has proved a success, The advance many to
prove their points. Firstly, the system leads economy, secondly, it gives place to exchange of free idea
between boys and girls suffer. Thirdly, It enlarges the scope of and enthusiasm for competition and
gives better result. Besides, the presence of girls among boys in same school will result in healthy
thinking. Those who appear Co-education have their own arguments. According to them, though the
system leads to economy yet the benefits of such are ultimately false. Men and women are
temperamentally different and education to be beneficial must in each case be so adjusted so to suit
both men and women. Thus the idea of co-education is wrong. Now if we weight the arguments of
both sides, we will find truth in both in lndia, co-education generally starts at the college level where
free mixing between boys and girls is not possible, because at it is grown up stage they are very much
sex conscious and shyness stands. In their way, this argument has also not been able to prove right on
the ground. Quite recently, the conception of separate schools and colleges for bays and girls has
almost vanished. Such schools and colleges are successfully bringing out education. It has resulted
into a healthy atmosphere in offices and other palaces of work. Men and women are seen standing side
by Side In all the schools and college. The women are becoming more and more confident in their
activities and enough bold for any hardship. Gone are the days when the girls were such commodities,
which were kept wrapped curtains and no show the light of the day.
MY FAVORITE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL
My Favorite Subject In School is mathematics. It is my favorite because I never have difficulty with it
and always get good marks in test. I suppose I am lucky to be born with a clear-thinking brain.
However since young. manipulating numbers and figures came easy to me. The wonderful thing about
Mathematics is that, besides same formulae, there is nothing else to remember. Every step is solving a
problem is done logically. Other subjects like History and geography required a lot of memory work.
Remembering dates and other facts is hard work compared with the ease and simplicity of
mathematical reasoning. While Mathematics is simple to me, some of my friends have great difficulty
with it. I do not really understand why. They get stuck with simple problems and often give up. So, I
help them out when I can. The one advantage I have in being good mathematics is that I do not have to
spend a lot of time on it. Home work and tests are a breeze. So I have plenty of time left over to study
other subjects. Sometime I feel sorry for my less fortunate classmates who get scolded in class for not
completing their Mathematics home work. Anyhow I have come to realize that human beings can be
so different in their abilities while they look similarly otherwise. Some of us are lucky to be good in
some things. Others may not be so lucky.

FA VOURITE SUBJECTS
I have studied many subjects like Punjabi, Hindi, Math, Science and English. I like English the most
out of these subjects. English is very polite language. It is an international language. It is studied in all
parts of the country and world communicating with people from other parts of the country becomes
easy if one knows English. English has a rich literature. [t is the language of science and technology. It
is also the language of trade and commerce. Besides, this language opens a window to the west. I
believe that the knowledge of English will help me in mixing freely with the people of other countries;
it is an important bridge for traffic of thought between east & west. This is used both computers &
Commercial establishments in major of world. It has a rich literature of law, freedom, nature and
adventures. At school, I always got good marks in English. I have done my diploma and graduation in
English. It helps in the growth of status, employment. Man training center, call center follow the
English language.

Joint family / Nuclear family.

In a Joint family a member enjoys the support and affection of many people. It is a system in which
more than two generations of a family live together. Actually it's a group of families, which shares each
others Joys and sorrows or fortunes and misfortunes. People feel less lonely in joint families. The elder
members are the head of the family and he takes decisions and looks after the family matters. Children
are looked after not only by parents but also by aunt and uncles. So they are not neglected even when
both the parents are working and did not have enough time.
Nuclear family is a family was husband wife and their children are living. High cost of living has made
nuclear families with one or two children more desirable. In nuclear families the bonding within the
family is stronger. Parents can focus on the development of children and children are benefited from this
close attention. In modern age people seem to prefer this. Yet many people who have grown up in a-joint
family with a number of siblings would speak for the merits of joint family. They feel growing up with
many siblings though they share everything among them, itself is a disciplining experience, and this
helps later in life in adjustments. Whereas in nuclear family one child get concentrated attention. There
is more independence, here sharing is less nobody is there to look after their children in their absence,
their joys and sorrows are their alone, nobody shares it. A person feels lonelier. But still nuclear families
are coming up in cities.

2. Changes in the youngsters.

Today in the modern era youngsters are quite aware of everything. Earlier there was not so much
exposure so there was less awareness in the youngsters. The parents used to take decisions for them,
even regarding in which stream they have to go, but nowadays youngsters make their own choices and
take their own decision. Earlier there was not so much competition but these days a youngster has to
face the cut-though competition in every field. Computers, Internet etc. were not in the past but now
youngsters have an easy access to all these. They get the knowledge almost about everything. In the
past youngsters were more obedient and less demanding, but now they are more demanding. They
argue both with parents and their teachers. They are more influenced by media and wants to wear
fashionable and latest trend dresses. The effect of peer group is also too much on them. In nutshell, I
want to say that todays youngsters are more aware, more confident and like taking their own decisions.
Changes you want in your life.

There are plenty of things which I want to change in my life. The first thing is am a very busy person
i.e. I don't have time to pursue my hobbies, I want to have time for the things I love to do. I want to
spend more time with my family. Secondly, I want to be more responsible, more independent and want to
take my own decisions without anybodys help or interference. That's why I want to go abroad, there I
have to do everything myself, nobody will be there to help me or to guide me and so I would become
more responsible as I would be preparing my own food, washing clothes and closing everything small
to big myself. I want to work hard and earn plenty or lot of money as till date my life was without any
target or goal, now I want to do something for my family and for myself. These are the few changes
which I want to bring in my life.

4. Community Events.
Man is a social animal, he can not live alone. He has to follow the rules set by society or the
community in which he lives. In our community people celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Jis birthday with
great enthusiasm. This time our colony people planned to arrange "path followed by "Iangar". All
colony people were actively participating in that. I also help in preparing langar and washing utensils.
It was a great experience. I felt a sense of satisfaction and contentment. People come closer due to such
community events and forget all their differences. Both rich and poor sit together in community
kitchen. So such community events play a vital role in our lives. Not only Gurpurab but all other
festivals should be performed with equal zest by the community, these community events spread love
and brings each other more close.
5. Describe a child you have met.
In winter vacations I planned to go to Lucknow by train. It was a long journey and more over I was
going alone and that is also for the first time. I took some books along with me to read on my way, soon
the train started. A couple with a small girl got seated next to me. The moment I saw that baby girl I was
fascinated by her beauty and innocence. She was hardly of three years, she was a very sweet and cut
girl, I was enchanted by her beauty, she looked like an angel, she had blue eyes, fair complexion and
curly hair. Firstly, I kept on looking at her, I wanted to talk to her but soon she started talking to me
herself that where I was going, why I was going there, what will do there, a series of questions. I did not
get irritated by really loved chatting with her and answering to her innocent questions. Soon we became
good friends. She was playing with me. I did not realize when I reached my destination. In her company
the time just flyed. Even after parting from her, I still remember her innocent face sweet voice.

Dream
Every person has a dream to do something or to become something in life. From my childhood I had a
dream to go abroad and to earn lots of money i.e. to become rich and famous. People should know me; I
should be a renowned person. In abroad I will work hard and earn money and live a luxurious and
comfortable life. I want to have a beautiful house it would be on the hilltop over looking the valley. I
would be able to view the entire valley from my house and hear the echoes across the valley. It would be
a medium-sized house with lots of trees around it. It would be built in the traditional style, but with
some modern touches, It would have large windows to catch the beautiful view.

My dream life is one in which I have plenty of time fo the things I love to do. Id pursue my hobbies
which are painting, reading good books by famous authors and listening music. Its a kind of life in
which I have lots of time to be with god too. Its my dream to do something for the needy because I
think we all need to give something back to the society in which we live.

7. If you received a lot of money, what will you do with that money?
If I am the fortunate person to receive a lot of money first of all I would buy a corner house which
would be in a quits and calm hilly area or on the side of a beach or sea, as I love water. Next I would buy
my dream car. I would also buy my dream car. I would also buy lots of designer clothes.
I would definitely do something for the uplitment of poor and backward class people. I would also give
charity to the educational institutes and medical care centers, where poor people will get free health care
and children would get free education.
I would also certainly do something for the blind. I really feel touched and bad for such unfortunate
person.
In nutshell I would like to say that if I get lots of money I would turn my dreams into reality.
8. Decision making.
One decision can change the whole life. It is the ability to take decision which reflects the personality
and attitude of a person. Often in the journey of life we come across roads, where one road will take you
to your desired destination and rest three can three can really mislead you. Your decisions really help
you in settling the pace of life. One should always take into consideration all the components and
various factors before taking any decision. As its always, one decision either makes or breaks your life.
9. Project or piece of work.

In today's ever expanding and fast moving you cannot achieve your goals without taking anyone's help.
I still remember, my first day of job at a placement agency. I was given portfolios of 15 students who
had completed their course and took services of our company for good placements. I felt overburdened
with the responsibility that was bestowed on my shoulders, as the fate of my survivals in the company
was dependent on how I would respond to these 15 cases. TO my relief and help came one of my
colleagues who were with the company for more than six months. He gave me the complete data of all
good I.T. Companies, management companies and even helped in arranging meeting with those
companies and finally preparing the presentation which I was suppose to give. He not only helped me in
achieving my targets but also helped in cementing my job in that company. I am till date thankful to him
for all the help and efforts he did for me and today we are best friends.

10. Would you prefer to open SSI or LSI? Why?

India is a developing country and is growing at a quick pace. But as a peculiar characteristic of any
developing country, India is also pacing the problem of unemployment or under employment. Today
with the help of the latest technology, inventions and computer playing an important role, machine is
taking place of human being. Undoubtedly this new technology has really seen the pace of development
but along come the fear of ever increasing rate of unskilled labour. To help and cure this problem of
unemployment I would certainly prefer to open a small scale industry or a cottage industry, which will
not only give employment to various unskilled labour but will also indirectly help the rural sector
development with new inventions and fast growing technology, unorganized sector is being neglected.
So to balance the growth in all sectors, development of small-scale industries will play a very important
role.

11. A major change you have seen in your life.

The most consistent thing in life is 'change'. Everything changes with time. As a child, you have
different priorities, as a young boy or girl, your priorities are different and so on. As the time passes by,
life changes along with it. Few days ago, I got a chance to visit my college/school and along came the
old memories some sweet and some sour. I went back into my past life and realized there has been
tremendous change in me since my days in college / school days. I was a carefree, fun wing,
irresponsible person who never use to give a second thought for doing anything. I was really aggressive
and irrational. But as the time passes by you tend to realize what you have gained and what you have
lost. In first few days of my job, I realized that world is altogether different from my imagination. This
would teach me the key work to success is 'Patience'. The people who never use to give second thoughts
now think hundred times before taking any decision. The aggressiveness, impatience, irrationality have
all taken a back seat. I have become more responsible than before, more thoughtful. But then the saying
goes, no one is perfect and to 'Error is human'.

12. Your childhood room.

It was last Sunday, when I thought; I will clean my room, which was in a real bad mess because of my
hectic schedule. While I was cleaning up the mess, all of a sudden my memory flashed my childhood
room. How I forced my parents for all flashy colours in my room. Those stands full of soft toys. My
childhood room was really special for me. The walls were done in Red & pink colours on which I had
got my favourite cartoons made. In one corner of the room was my study table with my books scattered
all over it, in the middle of my room was really soft mattresses on which I use to jump a lot. I had made
a special place for all my soft toys in one corner. There was this special lamp in shape of micky mouse
by the side of my bed and how can I forget my wooden almirah which I had covered with all kind of
glow sings and stickers of my favourite Barbie / Archie's characters. My room was my favourite place,
which I miss a lot.

13. What would you like to serve your friends?

If I invite my friends over for a meal I am going to serve a complete buffet of mix and match. I would
welcome my friend with a nice smoothie or a well pleaded cocktail / mocktail followed by few but nice
starters which will have both vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies. I would serve them nice bowl of
soup. Dinner would be four to five courses, including nice coleslaw salad along with fresh green salad.
Dinner would include nice pasta with cream served garlic bread and toasted dinner rolls coupled with
freshly baked pizza. No meal is complete without desserts which surely are sumptuous pudding and ice
cream with hot chocolate sauce. Last but not the least nice cup of express coffee with chocolate
powder.
14. Program you find interesting on Radio.

Radio is one of the oldest sources of Entertainment and has always been an integral part of people in
rural areas. With invention of TV, Computers etc. it has really lost its importance but it is regaining its
Importance and place in people's life as most of them are on move and the only way of entertainment
while driving or walking is the radio. Though the CD players and cassette players are there but the kind
of variation you can get from radio is just awesome. My personal favourite programme on Radio is
level compatibility. The programme is outstanding, in this the listener call live and tell about their and
loved ones Zodiac sings and the presenter tells about the compatibility of two zodiac's or how much
compatible they are. And after each call they attend, they play lovely wonderful love song. Its my
favourite as, it is a live Programme where people interact with the Radio jockey. One can really enjoy
listening to funny comments and are able to relate to the callers. Its really very nice.

15. Gift you have received.

A child, a youngster, or an adult, we all love it when we get a gift. It really makes you feel special;
recently on my academic achievement my parents gifted me a personal computer. I was ecstatic to
receive, it, almost in tease with excitement and happiness. I was unable to thank them properly as words
were running short or I was running short of words. The special thing about it was the feeling of being
loved, being cared. Its a nice black machine which keeps me busy most of the time, when I am home. It
has games, music, its educative, its everything for me.
16. A change which has changed your life.

I belong to a village and was born and bought up in a village. The atmosphere in a village did never suit
my aim, desires and ambitions. Since I am very ambitious, I could never get the atmosphere in a village
that I deserved and looked for. I used to feel choked there as I had no opportunities, no exposure and no
way to show my capabilities and talents.

And suddenly one day, I heard my parents discussing that it was necessary for them to send me to a big
city for higher studies. Even my parents were aware that my talent and hard work could only be
crowned at a renowned place. My heart leapt with joy and happiness knew no bands when the city
selected was Chandigarh. I got admission in the best institution.

I worked so hard that I gained university positions and became head girl of my college. I was the
favourite of my teachers and college mates. Thus, this indent changed my life because 'an unnoticed
spec of a village suddenly became a shining became a shinning star of a big city. This was my dream
and it turned to be true.

17. A holiday which you like the most.

I could never forget the day of 2yth December. We were having winter break. Since we had done with
our examinations, so we had hardly to study anything. And it was so cold outside that all my friends
whished to stay at home and enjoy the cosy atmosphere with their family. Though it was not that bad
idea, but we felt bored by staying at home throughout the day.

On 2yth December morning, I received a call from my friend that she was throwing a party at 10.00
a.m. and that we would have lunch together. I felt happy because atleast we got the opportunity to enjoy
together. We had a lot of fun till lunchtime. Soon after we had our lunch, she announced that she had a
surprise for us.

The surprise was that she had managed to get passes for Gurdas Mann Nite on that very evening. We
all started dancing with joy because Gurdass Mann is a craze of all my friends and obviously mine too.

We went and we saw him on the stage. And to further enhance our joy, we somehow managed to meet
his personally and got his autograph. That was the loveliest, .unforgettable and most enjoyable day of
my life.

18. A thing which you have made.

Talking about myself frankly, I am not a good crafts person. It is once in a blue moon that I make thing
on my own. But I could not forget the day when I experimented in kitchen.
My mother and father were out for some party and were expected to arrive late. I did not prepare
anything for myself, suddenly, they called me up and informed that due to some problem, and they
could not have dinner and would have dinner at home. In order to bring my self in their Good books, I
thought of making something special. A friend of mine has once told me the recipe of 'Biryaani' but the
picture was of a vague kind in my mind. Still I started with it and put my 100% efforts and was happy,
excited and satisfied that I have made something with my own hands.

I set the dinning table and my Parents were so surprised to see that I know cooking. I was so excited
that I asked them to have dinner first and did not even allow them to get fresh. When my mother tasted
the first bite, she just could not help puking. I was so embarrassed but they cheered me up because at
least I have prepared something. We, then, went out for dinner. But one member of my family liked the
dish most and thats my doggy. I am still famous for making a 'Delicious Biryaani'
19. An event that made you laugh
My life is surrounded by such people who are living 'Charlie Chaplins'. Every member of my family is
a kind of caricature. If I come to describe then it would really comprise a whole thick-fat novel.

One such event is once we went to vegetable market. At that time lot of stray comes were in our city.
They had the habit of eating vegetables. My father was just selecting the vegetables and suddenly a cow
came with intention of eating vegetables. It happened so that the cow, in a rush and confusion, picked
up my dad on her neck. Every one including the cow was bewildered.

The scene was so hilarious because the cow, with dad on her back, started running in the whole of the
market. I, my mother and my sister could not help laughing. We laughed heartily and so did the people
standing there. People who did know what has actually happened thought that my dad was having a
cow-ride. That made us laughs more.
When my dad's ride was over, he was so embarrassed but could not help laughing. He asked us to return
back and we came back laughing without buying anything. On asking that what my favourite pass time
is, we all laugh and say that our family enjoys riding on a cow.

20. A letter you received recently.

Getting and sending letters have become pass in this age. Due to invention of telephones and mobiles,
people are completely forgotten to write letter because it comprises so much of time and energy-
wastage. But the trends of e-mail are still in prevalence.
Recently, I received an e-mail from my sisters staying in New-Zealand. She is married with one baby
girl. Since, we both are so busy with our daily schedules and life that we hardly get time to talk to each
other. So her e-mail really made me smile because it was after a long time that I heard from her.
The e-mail brought a good news with it. She stated that her daughter has started walking and is able to
speak fluently now. Also that she herself has got Government job in New-Zealand. They have bought a
house of their own, which is really a big achievement. Because in a foreign country it is really
appreciable to have your own property in just two years.
The e-mail contained few photographs of her new house, her baby and of the couple too. It was a very
good letter because it brought the news of a success that my sister and her husband have achieved.
21. Any product of India.
Thought India is not one among the top leading companies in the field of production, but we cannot
ignore the abundance of good products it has made. One such product is 'Himalaya products'.
Himalaya is not a very old company. Within a few years it has really secured a good place in the market
shelve. The best quality about it is that it has not been limited to just one field. Instead its area is much
wider and circles many products.
'Himalaya' has good name in the field of medicine. The medicines made by this company are very light,
mild and have fewer side effects as compared to other strong medicines. Doctors suggest the medicines
made by 'Himalaya Private Ltd.'.
The next field in which 'Himalaya has really done a progress is the field of cosmetics. We find 'face--
wash, lotions, shampoos etc. of this company. People go for 'Himalaya' because they find Its product
very natural and without any reaction or allergy. The results are also amazing.
Though, there are equally popular products in the market made in India but 'Himalaya' has really aured a
good name and good place. All Indians prefer this natural product rather than international ones.

22. Any skill in English language you like most.

English is a language that has opened a window to the whole world. It is believed that if you are adept
in English. You would not feel alien in any part of the world. You will meet people, who are good In
English, any where you go.
The skill that I find most interesting in English language is the still of speaking. If you are good at
speaking, you can adjust anywhere. Though other skills as writing, reading or listening are equally
important because you can not be as competent in speaking unless you are skilled in writing, reading or
listening.
Still, I am influenced by speaking skill because it is only by speaking that you can impress the other
person. It is said that 'the first Impression is the last Impression, and the first Impression is laid by
speaking because no one is going to check your listening, writing or reading on the very first meeting.
Moreover, your speaking reveals your confidence level. The person who is confident can only speaks
good and fluent English. Speaking English is moreover, very important these days. Value and status of a
person is really enhanced if he is good in English. So, this is the skill that I like most.

education typically includes "the imparting of knowledge".

Clothing is defined in its broadest sense, as coverings for the hands, feet and head, as well as for the
torso and links. People wear clothes for functional as well as for social reasons. Clothes protect the
vulnerable nude human body from the extremes of the weather, other feathers of our environment and
for safety reasons. Every article of clothing also carries a cultural and social meaning. Human beings are
the only mammals known to wear clothing. Clothing can protect against many-things that might injure
the naked human body. We can say that "Clothes make the man". Clothes were not mere aesthetic
ornament but emblems of society's hierarchy and symbols of the spirit. Not only could clothing
transform a person's appearance, it could influence the actions and attitudes of both the wares and the
never. Dress becomes a kind of personal glossary. It is a study of which it would be madness to neglect.

Radio is the wireless transmission of signals originally; radio was called "wireless telegraphy" which

The summer starts in India from the middle of March. It continues till the middle of June. It comes
after the spring season. The days are long and nights are short In summer. In daytime, pitiless heat
falls. Only a few hours of the early morning are pleasant. By noon atmosphere gets heated up.

public buildings. Ice is in good demand. The sale of cold drinks is at its top. Sharbat and coca-cola are

Spring season comes after season of cold in winter. The spring is the most attractive season. It starts
from the mid of February. It is at its height by the middle of March. It brings moderate climate. There
is second birth of nature. It is the season of life and hope. There is an atmosphere of joy among plants,
birds and animals. New leaves and plants are born. New flowers boom. Spring is a season of flowers.
The butterflies move from flower to flower-gathering honey. The people feel very happy. Many
migratory birds arrive from cold regions. The songs of birds are the most pleasant. Most of the
festivals are celebrated in spring season. Spring is the favourite season of poets. The
snow starts melting on the most mountains in spring. The dry streams and rivers start melting water.
Spring is also the Season of harvest. The rainy season is the most colourful season in India. It brings

1. Which is your favourite season and why?
Spring / autumn:
I like spring season the best. The weather is moderate. Its neither too hot nor cold. You do not sweat
too much or feel lazy like you do in winter or summer. The city looks beautiful because of its green
trees. Even the flowers are in full bloom and the whole city is colorful.
Everything seems to be fresh and new. Looking at nature, one feels happy and is refreshed. In this we
look forward to the coming winter / summer.
Summers: I like summers because the days are longer and the days are shorter. One can wear
comfortable clothes and moreover you can eat many nice things like ice creams etc. One can enjoy
sports like swimming etc.
Disvantages of summers:
It is extremely hot and you tend to sweat a lot. One gets sunburns and there are too many mosquitoes
and lizards. There are also too many power cuts in summers.
Winters: Winter is my favourite season. I like winter because we dont sweat in winters. They are
always bearable and if it gets too cold we can wear more sweaters to stay warm. There are also many
things to eat like.
37. Festival- Diwali
Twenty yeas back, people were not very materialistic and neither was this festival a commercial.
Instead, it was a very personal and a sacred event. People exchanged sweets and gifts only with the near
and the dear ones but nowadays, it has become a social requirement to exchange gifts with almost
everyone you know. to live up the social standards of the people. Some anti-social activities like
drinking and gambling also spoil the spirit of this day.
What is the difference between the ways this festival is celebrated among different age groups?
All age groups enjoy Diwali but the way it is celebrated is definitely different. The adults prefer to have
dinner and get together at their place with good food and music, whereas children like to burst crackers
light and play pranks on each other.
What are the things, which you don't like about this festival?
People are careless while bursting crackers. They do not take necessary precautions and end up hurt.
Some people have suffered permanent ailments due to their ignorance. The mood of festivity
disappeared the moment something bad happens. So people should be more careful and should not let
the children burn crackers by themselves or supervise them when they are around dangerous items.
There is too much air and noise pollution caused by those crackers, which is harmful.
39. Photography
How do you organize your photographs?
I have organized my photographs according to my educational level. I have put photographs of my

my classmates at all the three levels. I also have photographs of all the tours I had gone with

camera to capture events, which one can remember in future.

My favourite photograph is our family portrait. It is a picture of my family, which was taken on a
cousin's wedding. It shows all four of us, my brother and me standing in front of a beautiful landscape.
It is very heartwarming picture and we all are very fond of it. We've even got it enlarged and hung it on
the wall of my parents bedroom.
Who took/clicked it?
As it was my cousin's wedding, we had it clicked from a professional photographer. That is the reason
why it is exceptionally clear and sharp.
I think photographs and videos have their own pleasure. Still photography can be looked at again and
again but watching a video film can be quite cumbersome. Good family photographs of their children
and keep a track of the growing years. These photographs become a symbol of all the good times and
lovely memories which can be cherished time and again.

43. Historical Place - Taj Mahal

The taj mahal at Agra is one of the seven wonders of the world. There are many historical
monument in the worlds as well as in India, but the taj mahal is unique in them. It is an
inimitable building. Numerous people from India and abroad visit taj every year. Mughal
Emperor Shahjahan built the taj mahal in the memory of his beloved queen Mumtaj Mahal.
The taj has become symbolic of intense love these days. During my graduation days, I got a
chance to visit taj mahal in the company of my friends. We organized a trip to taj mahal. We
reached taj at night. The beauty of the taj was at its peak under the silvery moonlight
spreading all over the place, its beauty captivated us all. It's surroundings were well
decorated with greenery and flowerbed. There were large groups of
foreigners clicking their cameras. We also pass for photographs. The taj Mahal is made of white marble.
Its architectural design is superb. It has four minerals on four corners with an onion shaped dome in the
center. Couplets from Koran are engraved beautifully on its wall, which is again a wonder of
calligraphy, flowery designs are inset with precious coloured stones. We went downstairs to visit the
graves of the emperor and the empress who lie side by side in the graves over there. The green tufts of
grass, and the green shoots of the Cyprus trees adorned its majestic beauty. Of course, Taj Mahal is
supremely beautiful. We felt rewarded after seeing it.
44. Tourism

Tourism is one of the largest and fastest growing industries of the world. Tourism plays a crucial role
in the economy development of the country. It is a big foreign exchange earner. India is a country that
offer different types of cultural attractions and climatic conditions for all kinds of tourists throughout
the year. India has all what tourists look for-sea, surf, sand and sunshine. It also has a number beautiful
backwaters and hill stations. Tourism is the second largest net foreign exchange earner for the country.
Tourism creates more jobs than any other section. Keeping this in view, it has been granted the status
of industry. It employs large number of people, both skilled and unskilled, promotes national
integration and international understanding. Apart from having a diverse religious heritage India also
have been enamored of from the majestic snowfall of Himalayas in the North, the sun-tossed beaches
in the South, the diverse geographical locales provides a treat to the eyes.

The locales are interspersed with monuments, places, forts etc. India offers a perfect paradise with its
diversities to attract tourists. Seeming the immense potential of India, the department of tourism was
formed to promote international and domestic tourism in the country. Even though the country has vast
potential in this sector, Indian share in the world tourist market during 2001 was 0.37% only. Traffic
congestion, unplanned urbanization, callousness of the Citizen have caused severe problem. Foreign
tourists are beguiled by tax drivers and tour who pretend to be friendly with them. In India, most of the
tourist destinations have become ecologically fragile. The tourist railway stations should be
strengthened. Tourist should be provided with clean hotels, reliable transport system and railway
stations should provide information to the tourists. Customs clearance procedures at airport should be
simplified. Te maintenance of the tourists' destinations should be taken care by efficiently and their
sanctity, and their sanctity and beauty must be restored. Himachal banned the use of polythenes after
monitoring its ill effects. Other states could follow suit and restore the ecological balance.

What is the importance of tourism in the world today?

The tourism industry is one of the most lucrative businesses in the world today. In India, tourism is a
major source of revenue for the government. India is very rich in its culture and heritage and also have
a vast treasure of historical monuments and structures Every year millions of tourists from all over the
world come to India to see these places. These days almost every body goes for holidays and India
offers maximum options. From High Mountain to water body areas it has everything for tourists.
What are the problems the tourism industry is facing today?

The tourism requires constant upgrading for correct channeling of tourists. In every peak season efforts
should be made to offer the most attractive tourist packages of travelers. The worst problem of the
tourist industry in India is lack of a stable government. Tourism being a government department is
dependent on its stability and success. Another threat to tourism is the increasing terrorism Kashmir
was once known as 'Heaven of Earth' and now because of intense terrorist activity in the valley. It has
been closed to all travelers. Pollution is also a threat, as we know that the Tajmahal, which is a major
tourist attraction, is being harmed.
Stress
Stress is a burden on mind caused by difficult situation. In past, people lived happily and stress
was less among people. But today our life is getting very busy. People are working like a
machine from day to night I morning to evening I round the clock. At office pressure to meet
deadlines, pressure to reach office on time, scolding by boss attraction with fellow workers are
some of the causes of stress. Also problems at home can't be forgotten at workplace, headaches
and sleeping difficulties etc. Sometimes stress leads to road accidents as people do not
concentrate on driving. People are having no time today for recreational activities, which
relieves stress like morning walks, yoga etc. sometime under stress people do things they might
not have done under normal circumstances. They regret later for this. People are having
butterflies in the stomach when they are going to appear for interviews. Their heart starts
palpitating and body begins to tremble.
Among children also there is lot of causes of stress. The pressure to complete the homework within time
and phobia of being beaten by teachers, pressure to perform well in examination, pressure to memorize
the subjects examinations are some causes of stress. School children nowadays are rarely playing
outside with other children as they are seen studying till late night. They do not sleep during
examination day.
Stress is retarding their physical and mental growth. They feel uncomfortable when it comes to dealing
with other people. They are suffering from loneliness and they can't develop their personalities. Further,
when children do not meet expectation of parents in exams, they come under stress and sometimes they
commit suicide.
We can remove stress by doing different activities like going for morning walk, yoga etc. people
should take some time for their hobbies. Hours of working should be fixed at work place.
Spending time with friends and family members is an excellent way to relieve stress. We can
see different laughing clubs mushrooming in cities to remove tension from mind. Syllabus
should be less in schools. Schools should make arrangement for sports and recreational
activities for children.
Memorizing the subjects before examination are some causes of stress. School children now a
day are rarely playing outside with other children. They are seen studying till late night during
night. They sleep fitfully during examination days. Stress is retarding their physical and mental
growth. They are suffering from loneliness lack of personality development. When children do
not meet the expectation of parents, they do come under stress and sometime commit suicide.
Death of a closer person at family, poverty, and unemployment are some other causes of stress.
Sometimes people commit crimes under stress. Lot of medicines are available in market for
removing stress. Stress causes lot of health related problems. It may cause permanent damage to
brain, headaches and brain hemorrhage, lack of concentration. I can remove stress by doing
festive activities. We should go for morning walk dally. Yoga is other exercise to remove stress.
Hours of working would be fixed at workplace. Bantering with friends, family members are
excellent way to relieve stress. Researches have proved that just by laughing with other people
without any reason relieves tension from mind. Education should be made less tough in schools.
Schools should make arrangements for sports and vocational activities for children. People
should regularly go outside to meet their friends, relatives. Going for a trip with friends or
family members is another way to relieve stress. Occasional watching TV or going to see a
movie also relieve stress.
48. My Favourite Vehicle
Vehicles are playing very important role in modern civilization. Earlier people were taking days
to travel from one city to another. Nowadays with improved conveyance, people are reaching
another city within few hours. Science has made travelling a pleasure. Science has annihilated
time and space. Train roars through jungles and desserts and man travels with safety and speed.
One can take his breakfast in Srinagar, lunch in Delhi and dinner in Mumbai. The works of
years and months is completed within hours. Although there are various kinds of vehicles, one
sees travelling on the road but my favourite vehicle is motorcycle, manufactured by Hero
Honda Company. It's name CBZ. I have this motor like Hero Honda. Suzuki, Bullet and
Yamaha. Many foreign countries are selling their motorbikes in India like Harley David Son.
Motorcycle is two-wheell vehicle. It forms the private mode of transport. The colour of my bike
is silver. Right when it was launched by Hero Honda Company on first day, I dreamt of having
it. After completing my graduation, my father gifted me this bike on my birthday. It is six-gear
bike. It is best motor to suit Indian road. It is a four stroke vehicle. Mileage is very good. It is
averaging at the rate of 60 km/liter. As prices of petrol are getting very high these days, more
and more people are buying motorcycles because of better mileage it offers. Its pick up is very
good. It's speed limit rages from 0 -160 km per hour. It is very comfortable vehicle. Its start
absorbing system is very reliable. It IS best made to suit Indian roads. It has disk break
technology unit, which is recent technology. The disk break technology is more reliable that
technology. It provides kick and start type means of transport you don't have to wait for public
buses to go somewhere you can go immediately anywhere you like. Although its initial cost is
high, but he cost of running and maintaining it are very low. As the prices of petrol will rise in
future, more people will opt for this mean of transport.
49. Fast food vs. Traditional food
The three basic needs of human beings are food, clothing and shelter. Food is one of the most important
things for livelihood. Without food, one cannot survive. Food gives us energy to work for. A healthy diet
is necessary for growing children. To be healthy, better quality of food is required. The better quality
food is that which is hygienic, nutritious, fresh and delicious. That type of food can be made at home
only. It is rich to vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates etc. All vegetables, fruits, pulses, cereals are having
all the basic nutrients. We can cook it according to our method of cooking so that the vitamins do not got
spoiled or destroyed. That type of food is called traditional food. No doubt the tradition are changing
and people have less alternatives are also there. To fulfill the demands of people, the demand of fast
food is increasing day-by-day. It is easily available. Children of this era like the fast food. Children of
this era eat at odd times; it can be readily available in the market. We can get it within few minutes. It
saves time. If guests are there at odd times. As the fast food is not fresh, it locks the basic nutrients but it
is tasty only. The china which is the origin of fast food today have more fat children than any other
country in world. But the fast food is becoming the craze and fashion among people. In my point of
view fast food should be taken occasionally and the traditional food should be taken on regular basis. So
we should make children aware of traditional food, which is rich in nutrients. They should know that
only the sound body has the sound mind. The sound body can be made with good diet, which is
traditional food.
50. Family Member Whom You Like The Most

I have four members in my family. Although we love each other but my favourite family member is my
mother. Almost every child is affectionate towards his mother. My mother is the role model for me
right from my childhood days. She is currently 40 years old. She is a teacher in Govt. Girls School,
Sangrur. She has been in service since 25 years. Apart from working as teacher in school, she is also
doing all the household work. She goes to work at 8 o'clock in the morning. Before that she prepares
the breakfast for us. She cooks at home at 1:30 in the afternoon and prepares the lunch for us. Her
major characteristics are that she is polite. She is always there to give me advice whenever I need. She
is like the matriarch in our family decision. She is always strict when it is the matter of studies. It is
only because of her that I complete my graduation in computers. She comes to home from work, she
always bring with her fruits for us to eat. She is also bringing new clothes for us on regular basis. She
is simple lady. She doesn't know till today how to switch channel on T.V. She is fond of adorning the
home. She also likes gardening. We have a beautiful garden in our house. There are four flowerbeds
and lush green lawn. She sometimes brings new plants from the near by nursery with us. Every
evening, she is seen watering the plants. The food she prepares is always delicious. She wishes to god
for our family well family well being. It is only because of her that I turned into a good human being.
She always helped me at every stage of my life. She always told me what good human being is. She
always helped me at every stage of my life. She always told me what is good or bad for me in life. She
has given equal attention to my siblings also. We all like her.
From all lovable members of my family it is difficult to choose favourite family member but still if have
to choose then I will definitely choose my Grandpa. He is a very nice man. From the very first day, he
gave me the support everywhere. He is the only person on whom I can trust blindly. He is an ideal for
me. He is currently 78 years old and living in Patiala. He is living alone in a home. Everyday servant
comes and prepares meals for him three times a day. There are other servants who clean the house. He is
a retired teacher. He is very strict person several times we asked him to stay with us but he always
refuses our proposal. Although he is 78 but is still healthy. He doesn't require a stick for walking. He has
four sons including my father. Two of them are settled abroad. He usually visit them but don't want to
stay with any of them. To pass his time he teaches poor children writes books. He usually writes books

54. WHICH GENERATION IS WALKING MORE?
PROBABLE ANSWERS
1) I myself feel old people walk more as they need it for keeping themselves healthy, they
have realized the importance of health and think that health is
wealth.younger people are too busy with themselves onlyno time
for health as they think it is sheer waste of time.
2) Well order people HAVE to worry more about their health to live longer, plus they have
more free time, so, yes older people walk more.
3) The previous generationOur newer generation is a lot lazier now days.
4) Actually, on my part, that's not true, I'm 21, I don't drink, I go out for regular exercise and
walk everywhere I can, pretty much because I want to!
5) I believe older folks walk more. Maybe it's because they were born in a time where not
everyone had transportation and they needed to walk.. I walk to keep the joints moving,
and the heart pumping.
6) Young people don't walk as much because they are LAZY, plain and simple, they are the
ones who sit waiting at the parking spot near the door of the mall near the store they sit all
day saying they are bored while they play video games or surf or chat on the computer.
They dont look outside, unless to see the weather they don't want to go out and look at the
leaves and nature. Old people even had to WALK TO SCHOOL it is a joke but its really
true.
7) I bet the older generation thought that health was a waste of time when they were young.
Older generations old walk more. because there was not so many transport alternatives,
doesnt mean the younger generation is any worse! They are just young!!
8) The human body is a biological machine, and being a machine it needs regular exercise to
keep it working. People who themselves into thinking exercise is not for them are doing
themselves a great injustice. I am NOT a fitness freak, but I understand that my body will
be better off with a decent amount of exercise, that's why I get off the bus a stop or 2 before
I have to, and walk the rest of the way. Its free and easy exercise. I am 37; I don't know
what generation I would be classed in for the purpose of the question. And I think people
who only start to exercise late in life are closing the gate AFTER the animals have
escaped'
9) The new generation is too lazy and drives everywhere
10) In every generation some look after their health and some do not. If you go back far enough
people had to walk more because they had no other means of getting about...
55. WHY PEOPLE KEEP PETS?
PROBABLE ANSWERS
1) As we are selfish. when we dont get anything then pet can satisfy our egos or it is
love.
2) There are many different reasons. All my pets have homes because they were unwanted and I
feel it is my duty to help creatures that cant help themselves.
3) To keep us company and genuinely love without being hurt.
4) My answer is based on having three dogs. The reasons for pets range from true friend to true
protection. Dogs teach children responsibility. Pets Show You Love. I have burned in my
memory watching my grandmother with Alzheimers (sp) sitting on her couch while this small
dog lay across her lap as she petted him. He would go eat and do his business, but every time he
finished he would always get back in her lap. That is why people have pets.
5) To be serious? I'm quite sure that most pet owners are NOT selfish or egotistical. I've adopted
man rescues from pet shelters because I want to do my part. Pets provide friendship, happiness,
and fulfillment to their owners. And yes, It is love. Most pets become family members. It's pretty
sad - some people never owned a pet and experienced the joy, and maybe they've never known
love in its purest form.
6) We keeps pets for many of the same reasons we seek human companionship, but pets have much
simpler needs, they are not judgmental and they are more honest in any relationship.
7) I think they keep it for having a genuine friend, to get rid of loneliness
8) Pets aren't things; they are supposed to be loved of members of your family. If you treat them as
such, its great feeling!
9) May be its animal love or it might be lack of companionship from people around or just as a
status symbol.
10) We need some outlets to show our feelings and expression, while showing our sorrows; sharing
it with humans may not be practical, if you do a have a pet you can show your love, sorrow and
basically as time passes, when we talk about freedom of human why not freedom for animals or
birds? Do we have any birthright to keep under house arrest which is being bought? Well
keeping pet is not good some times; it is OK as long as your neighbour has no objection in
health and hygiene.
11) Pets make you feel good, like if you don't have a friend or someone to hang out with you always
have your pet (unless it lazy) but usually they make people feel good and you won't feel lonely.
Also, pets make good listeners because they can't talk about to you and they are more honest not
to tell your secrets than any human, and no matter what you say they'll always listen to what you
say (sometimes maybe not for a trick ... but it you want someone just to talk to you always have
your pet - especially if you have a dog) and if you always wanted a little brother or sister but you
can't get one, you can get a pet because they can annoy you, make you laugh, or just have a good
time and they take the place of not having a little Sibling.
12) Pet can be your best friend and will never betray you. It will always be there to help you in
time of need and will never expect anything in return....
13) Pet can be your best friend and will never betray you. It will always be there it help you in time
of need and will never expect anything in return..
14) There are many reasons why we keep them, one is that some love accompanying them coz they
love them and others do It for they are alone and probably others for some medical benefit but if
I am keeping a pet so its for the love and soft corner that I have for them.

a good proportion of older people, but we do tend to stay away from the most overexcited
elements. I'm a cricket fan too, although I don't know how we play it.
7) I love watching but I also like playing, I still do play. I do prefer watching at home though
because you get all the replays and toilet breaks and comfy chairs. I thing governments should
support sport much more than it does. Aside from that it is a matter of national pride, and just
remember the celebrations when we won the Cricket World Cup, and look at the desolation when
we were wiped out in the South Africa (cricket). Also, it keeps people fit and promotes teams
spirit, sportsmanship, discipline and other skills which are beneficial in life.

36. ADVERTISING
Advertising is a form of mass communication. It involves a process of transmission of information by
the manufacturer or a seller of product. Advertising can be any form of presentation such as song,
symbol or illustration in print media, a commercial on radio or television etc. advertising also helps in
the development of the society as it increases consumption, raises the standard of living and improves
the quality of life of people. Today, there are many industries, which spend a heavy amount of
advertising. As far as the medium of advertisement is compared, this still remains the favorite.
Television, due to spurt of cable channels is fast becoming as attractive medium. My favorite
advertisement is of memory improvement course advertised by Tele-brands Company. I saw this
advertisement on television. The thing I liked the most is that the cost of the course was very less. They
guarantee that after going through their course, you will learn how the minds work. They said you would
be able to remember lot of things much better then before. After watching the advertisement, I noted
their address and item code to order the course. Next day, I posted them the letter to send me the
product. The product was delivered to me just two weeks age and I have gone through the course and it
really improved my understanding. I think the product was worth the money spent by me so I dont have
to regret for spending money.

Writing TASK -2
How of you think society will be affected by the growth of telecommuting?

(Definition: Telecommuting: workers doing all or part of their work from home
and communicating with their office by computer.)

TELECOMMUTING: WILL IT CHANGE THE WORKD?

AUTHENTIC STUDENT ANSWER

Telecommuting will have major effects in the worlds of work and family life. However, its biggest effect
will be in the area of individual freedom, responsibility and time management.
Work and workplace will alter dramatically. Offices may become smaller, as fewer desks needed. There
will be greater need for high-bandwidth connections to link the office and the home, and even homes to
other homes, as other employees and supervisors also being working at home. Hours spent commuting,
traffic jams, and fights for parking should diminish, as workers make fewer journeys or work staggered
hours.

Family life will also change. Workers both husbands and wives, can arrange their work around family
commitments such as taking children to school, cooking, leisure activities etc. However, households will
also have to set aside areas for work particularly if both spouses are telecommuting.

However, although the ideas of more time at home and less time traveling are attractive, there are some
drawbacks to telecommuting. People may feel unable to escape their work, and may even work longer or
more unsocial hours. The quality of work may suffer because of the reduced fact-to-face interaction with
other employees. There may be delays if other workers are not immediately available. Telecommuters
may feel isolated or unmotivated, or insecure about decisions. A major change will be in the way people
think about work as a place or an institution. Instead, they will focus on the task or product. Workers
may feel less loyal to a company and more inclined to change jobs or e work part-time or on contact.

In conclusion, the effects are difficult to predict because they depend on the extent to which
telecommuting becomes popular. However, telecommuting could be the start of a major societal shift,
possibly as big as the Industrial Revolution which created our present ideas of work.

SAVE OUR SPORTS!
AUTHENTIC STUDENT ANSWER
Today, many sports are becoming increasingly regulated. Boxing, rugby soccer and other games are
being targeted by sports bodies and medical organizations in an effort to improve safety standards and to
reduce injuries. However, for some people this is not enough, and they would rather see dangerous
sports banned completely. In this essay, I will examine some arguments against banning dangerous
sports.

Sports, competition, and games seem to be natural to humans. Young learn their own limits and strengths
though play with others, but they also learn valuable social lessons about what acceptable behavior and
the rights of others. Sport therefore is not just a phenomenon, but a mental and social one.

Challenging sports provides a healthy, largely safe, physical outlet for aggression. There is very little
evidence to show that people who take part in dangerous sports become violent as a result. IN fact it is
more likely that apart from the many friendships created in playing, sports acts are a safety valve for a
society by reducing stress. Moreover sports acts as a safety valve for a society by reducing stress.
Moreover, sports teachers and requires discipline, training and respect for the rules valuable lessons in
any society.

Almost all sports involve some risk. Young rugby players are paralyzed every year in scrums. Scuba-
diving accidents can lead to brain damage or death. Even golf or jogging can lead to pain or injury.
Without some elements or risk or challenge, sports become meaningless. A marathon runner trying to
improve his time, basketball player fiercely batting and opposing team, or a sky-diving team defying
gravity all are trying to push themselves to their maximum. There is therefore no sport without danger.

There is also of freedom. Without a wide range of sports, many people would feel trapped or limited.
People should be free to participate in activities with others as long as it does not affect the safety of
non-participants.

There should also be limits to the power of governments to ban sports. If one sport is banned because of
alleged danger, then what sport would be next? Boxing is the most common target of opponents of
dangerous sports. But if boxing is banned, would motor racing follow then rugby, wrestling, or
weightlifting? Furthermore, many sports would go underground, leading to increased injury and illegal
gabling many sports would go underground, leading to increased injury and illegal gambling.

Nobody denies that regulation is needed. Medical bodies have introduced safety rules in boxing, in
soccer, and these safety regulations have been welcomed by players. But the role of government should
be reduced.

In conclusion, our society would be healthier if more people took part in sports of all kind. We should
continue to try to prevent accidents and injuries. However, we should also ensure that sports are
challenging, exciting and above all fun.

EDUCATION: LOSING ITS VALUE

AUTHENTIC STUDENT ANSWER

Today, it seems to be universally accepted that increased education is a good thing. Thousands of
colleges and millions of students spend vast mounts of time and money chasing pieces of paper. But
what is the value of these qualifications? This essay will discuss whether education has been devalued.

Supporters of education (usually teachers or educators, or those in the business of education) say that
increased levels of education will open doors for students. Certificates, diplomas, and degrees are held
up as a status symbol, a passport to a private club of money and power.

However, the truly powerful are not those with degrees, but people who stand back and look at what is
really important in life. These people are fund in every part of society. Like many brilliant people,
Einstein was a weak math student. Like many successful business, Bill Gates never completed college.
Like many inventive and creative people, Edison never went to school. The greatest religious teachers
do no have letters after their name. Similarly, many of the worlds political leaders do not have masters
degrees or doctorates. These are the people who shape our lives, and they are too busy with real life to
spend time in the paper chase.

Students in college are being sold an illusion. They are made to believe that self-understanding and
society approval will come with the acquisition of a piece of paper. Instead of thinking for themselves,
and finding their own personality and strengths, they are fitted like square pegs into round holes, in so-
called professional job.

The role of education is to prepare masses of people to operate at low levels of ability in a very limited
and restricted range of activities. Some of these activities are perhaps more challenging than the
assembly lines of the past, but the ultimate purpose is equally uninteresting. More worryingly, despite
the increased level of education, people are still not genuinely expected to think for themselves. In fact,
the longer years of schooling make the job of brainwashing even easier.

There is still a role for study, research, and education. However, we need to examine our emphasis on
education for the sake of a piece of paper, and to learn the real meaning and revolutionary challenge of
knowledge.

Does foreign aid work? Or does it only help rich country by keeping the poorer country dependent?
SHOULD RICH COUNTIES HELP POORER ONES?

AUTHENTIC STUDENT ANSWER

Today, the world is becoming more and more closely linked. Trade increased and the movement of
people between countries is greater than ever before. However, billions of people still live in poverty,
and in many place the gap between rich and poor is widening. This essay will look at the arguments for
and against helping poor countries.

There are many reasons for helping poor countries. First of all, there are humanitarian reasons. Like
individuals who give to charity, many countries feel it is their religious, social or moral duty to help
people in other countries who are suffering from famine, drought, war or disease. However, many rich
countries also donate money for political or diplomatic reasons. They want to maintain a relationship of
dependency with the recipient, or simply to influence the government and direction of the country. A
further reason why many countries help poorer ones is for economic reasons. The donors may want to
control the supply of commodities such as oil, water, or wheat. Alternatively, the richer country may
want to ensure markets for their own products, whether these are planes, computers or shoes.

However, aid is not necessarily the best way to help a country. For one thing, billions of dollars of aid
often goes missing, into corrupt governments or inefficient administration. A second point is that many
foreign aid projects are unsuitable for the target country many agencies build huge dams or industrial
projects that fail after a few years or that do not involve the local people. Furthermore, much aid returns
to the donor. This can be in the form of expensive specialized equipment and experts from the donor
country.

There ate many other ways we can help poor countries. Opening up trade barriers so that poor counties
can sell their goods. Another is to remove subsidies so that imported goods from poorer countries have
huge interest repayments old loans.
The need of the poorer countries may see obvious. However, although our humanity makes us want to
help eliminate poverty and suffering, we must examine the real needs of poor countries and implement
solutions that will benefit both them and us.

Task -2
Animal testing may be necessary, but we need to be merciful. Do you agree or disagree with the
statement.

Every year, millions of animals undergo painful suffering or death as a result of scientific research into
the effects of drugs, food additives, cosmetics and other chemical products. While most people think
animal testing is necessary, others are upset by what they see as needless suffering. This essay looks at
some of the positive and negative aspects of animal testing.

Many medical treatments and procedures have been developed from experiments on animals. Since
animals share many features with humans, scientists use animals to test the safety and effectiveness of
newly developed drugs before pilot testing on small groups of patients. Medical teams practice new
operating techniques such as transplants on animals. Without animal testing, many procedures or new
drugs would be extremely unsafe.

However, many people are concerned that animals are suffering unnecessarily and cruelly. They do not
believe that every new drug needs to be tested on animals, especially with the huge database of
knowledge and modern computer models. They also are worried that many animal tests are ineffective,
pointing out that any drugs have had to be withdrawn from the market despite extensive testing. They
particularly feel that animal testing should not be used for non-essential products such as cosmetics,
shampoos, soaps and cleaning products. Furthermore, some campaigners would like to see certain tests
replaced and more humane methods used.

We need to make sure that the millions of animals who are used for testing new products are treated with
the minimum of suffering. Although some animal testing may be unavoidable at present, treating our
fellow creatures as mercifully as possible will demonstrate our humanity.

Animal Testing

Every day, thousands of people are saved from painful diseases and death by powerful medical drugs
and treatments. This incredible gift of medicine would not be possible without animal testing. Despite
these overwhelming benefits, however, some people are calling for animal testing to be banned because
of alleged cruelly. This essay will examine arguments for and against animal testing.

Those against the use of animal testing claim that it is inhumane to use animals in experiments. I
disagree completely. It would be much more inhumane to test new drugs on children or adults. Even if it
were possible, it would also take much longer to see potential effects, because of the length of time we
live compared to laboratory animals such as rats or rabbits.

Opponents of animals testing also claim that the results are not applicable to humans. This may be partly
true. Some drugs have had to be withdrawn, despite testing. However, we simply do not have alternative
methods of testing. Computer models are not advanced enough, and testing on plants is much less
applicable to humans than tests on animals such as monkeys. Until we have a better system, we must use
animal testing.

A further point often raised against animal testing is that it is cruel. Some of the tests certainly seem
painful, but the great majorities of people on this planet eat meat or wear leather without any guilt.
Where is their sympathy for animals? Furthermore, animals clearly do not feel the same way as humans,
and scientists are careful to minimize stress in the animals, since this would damage their research.

I agree that we need to make sure that animals that are used for testing new products have the minimum
of suffering. However, I am convinced that animal testing is necessary, and that it will continue to
benefit humans in new and wonderful ways. ( )

Advantages of Animal Testing in Medical Research ( )

Medical research involving animals has dramatically improved the health of the human race. Without
animal testing, the cure for polio would not exist and diabetics would suffer or die from their disease.
Despite these benefits, some people believe that animals should be not be used for testing medical
techniques and drugs. This essay will outline the advantages of animal testing.

Animal testing allows scientists to test and create new drugs. Animals such as monkeys or rabbits have
similar physical processes to humans. This allows scientists to test the effects of certain drugs. If a drug
produces adverse effects in animals it is probably unfit for human use.

Animal testing is cheap. There is a large supply of animals for medical research. Animals are easily
bred, and maintained safety in controlled labs. The costs of testing in humans would be extremely high.
Many people argue that animal testing is cruel. In some cases this is true. However it would be much
crueler to test new drugs on people or children, or to let people die because there was not enough
information about a drug. Furthermore, legislation in most countries sets standards for animal treatment,
and laboratories have guidelines to prevent cruelty.

Opponents of animal research also say that information from animals does not apply to humans. They
point to certain commercial drugs which have been withdrawn because of side-effects in humans. While
it true that animal systems differ from human systems, there are enough similarities to apply information
from animals to humans.

Animal rights campaigners claim that we dont need new tests because we already have vast amounts of
information. However, many new deadly infections appear every year and new treatments and drugs are
needed to combat these deadly plagues.

Animal testing is needed in the world we live in. Our responsibility is to manage the animals in our care
and balance their suffering against the good that comes from them.

Education: Losing its Value

Today, it seems to be university accepted that increased education is a good thing. Thousands of
colleges and millions of students spend vast amounts of time and money chasing pieces of paper. But
what is the value of these qualifications? This essay will discuss whether education has been devalued.

Supporters of education (usually teachers or educators, or those in the business of education) say that
increased levels of education will open doors for students. Certificates, diplomas, and degrees are help
up as a status symbol, a passport to a private club of money and power.

However, the truly powerful are not those with degrees, but people who stand back and look at what is
really important in life. These people are found in every part of society. Like many brilliant people,
Einstein was a weak math student. Like many successful businessmen, Bill Gates never completed
college. Like many inventive and creative people, Edison never went to school. The greatest religious
teachers do not have letters after their name. Similarly, many of the worlds political leaders do not
have masters degrees or doctorates. These are the people who shape our lives, and they are too busy
with real life to spend time in the paper chase.

Students in college are being sold an illusion. They are made to believe that self understanding and
society approval will come with the acquisition of a piece of paper. Instead of thinking for themselves,
and finding their own personality and strengths, they are fitted like square pegs into round holes, in so-
called professional jobs.

However, we need to examine our emphasis on
education for the sake of a piece of paper, and to learn the real meaning and revolutionary challenge of
knowledge.

Is Education Being Devalued?

Education: Still Invaluable !

In the past, degrees were very unusual in my family. I remember the day my uncle graduated. We had
a huge party, and for many years my mother called him the genius and listened to his opinion. Today,
in comparison five of my brothers and sisters have degrees, and two are studying for their masters.
However, some people think that this increased access to education is devaluing degrees. In this essay, I
will look at some of the arguments for and against the increased emphasis on degrees in our society.

People have several arguments against the need for degrees. They say that having so many graduates
devalues a degree. People lose respect for the degree holder. It is also claimed that education has become
a rat race. Graduates have to compete for jobs even after years of studying. Another point is that
studying for such a long time leads to learners becoming inflexible. They know a lot about one narrow
subject, but are unable to apply their skills. Employers prefer more flexible and adaptable workers.

However, I feel strongly that this move to having more qualifications is a positive development. In the
past education was only for the rich and powerful. Now it is available to everyone, and this will have
many advantages for the country and the individual. First of all, it is impossible to be overeducated. The
more people are educated, the better the world will be, because people will be able to discuss and
exchange ideas. A further point is that people with degrees have many more opportunities. They can take
a wider variety of jobs and do what they enjoy doing, instead of being forced to take a job they dislike.
Finally, a highly educated workforce is good for the economy of the country. It attracts foreign
investment.

In conclusion, although there are undoubtedly some problems with increased levels of education, I feel
strongly that the country can only progress if all its people are educated to the maximum of their ability.

Should dangerous sports such as boxing or motor-racing be banned?

Should dangerous sports be banned? Yes!

Millions of people play sport everyday, and inevitably, some suffer injury or pain. Most players and
spectators accept this risk. However, some people would like to see dangerous sports such as boxing
banned. This essay will examine some of the reasons for banning certain sports.

Some sports are nothing but an excuse for violence. Boxing is a perfect example. The last thing an
increasingly violent world needs is more violence on our television. The sight of two men (or even
women) bleeding, with faces ripped open, trying to obliterate each other is barbaric. Other sports, such
as American football or rugby, are also barely-concealed violence.

Some people argue that the players can choose to participate. However this is not always the case. Many
boxers, for example, come from disadvantaged backgrounds. They are lured by money or by social or
peer pressure and then cannot escape. Even in richer social groups, schools force unwilling students to
play aggressive team sports, claming that playing will improve the students character (or the schools
reputation), but in fact increasing the risk of injury.

Even where people can choose, they sometimes need to be protected against themselves. Most people
approve of governments efforts to reduce smoking. In the same way, governments need to act if there
are unacceptably high levels of injuries in sports such as football, diving, mountaineering, or motor-
racing.

I accept that all sports involve challenge and risk. However violence and aggression should not be
permitted in the name of sport. Governments and individuals must act to limit brutality and violence, so
that children and adults can enjoy and benefit from sport. ( )

Do children learn more quickly than adults?

Who learns faster - children or adults?

Small children seem to learn very quickly, while adults sometimes appear to lose the ability to pick up
new subject such as languages, music, games, or computer programs. In this essay, I will discuss
whether children or adults make the best learners.

It is undoubtedly true that children seem to learn very quickly. In just a few years, they can learn how to
play a musical instrument, speak one or even two new languages, and deal with many subjects at school.
They even have time for sports and hobbies, and become experts in their favorite pastimes. However,
how much of this is social pressure and how much is genetic? I am convinced that while childrens
brains have a natural ability to absorb new information as part of their developmental growth, much of
their achievement is because of social pressure. Schools force them to take many subjects. Parents force
them to practice new sports or to learn music. Even their playmates force them to become better at
computer games or to read Harry Potter novels faster. In summary, children may enjoy learning, but
their environment also is a big motivating factor.

Adults on the other hand are supposed to be poor learners. However, I disagree with people who say that
adults cannot learn quickly. Adults have many skills that compensate for the decilne in the ability of the
brain to grasp and remember new material. They can organize their learning by setting times for
reading or practice. They can build on skills and experiences they know already. Adults usually cannot
learn to do ballet or to play the violin, but even despite these physical challenges, their motivation can
often be higher than a childs. Unfortunately, society does not encourage many adults to learn. People
are busy with families and work, and some adults may feel that further learning is pointless, since they
have already achieved many goals at work or in their personal life.

In conclusion, I feel that we cannot generalize about children or adults being better learners. It depends
on the situation and the motivation of the person, and the level of enthusiasm he or she has for learning.

Should smoking be banned completely?

Should Smoking be banned?

It has become fashionable in the world today to condemn smoking. However, although I feel that
smoking can be harmful, I do not think it should be banned completely.

Let me deal first with the positive side of smoking. First, smoking undoubtedly helps many people to
relax. For some, it even improves concentration. Many people like to smoke before exams or when they
are relaxing with friends.
A further point is that governments throughout the world make huge profits from levying taxes on
cigarette. This provides funds which are used for building schools, hospitals and other public amenities.

The tobacco industry also employs tens of thousands of people throughout the world, particularly in
poorer countries like Zimbabwe or India. Without cigarettes, these people would have no jobs.

I would also argue that people should have the right to choose whether they smoke or not. People should
not smoke in a room where there are non-smokers but surely they should be free to smoke elsewhere.

The arguments against smoking are well known. Smoking has been shown to be dangerous to health.
Heart disease, bronchitis and lung cancer have all been linked.

A further issue is that smoking costs governments millions of pounds because of the large number of
people who need treatment in hospitals for smoking related problems.

There is also concern today about passive smoking. Recent research has shown that non-smokers can
suffer health problems if they spend long periods of time among people who do smoke.

In general, I think the world would be a better place without cigarettes. However, the decision as to
whether to smoke or not should be for each individual to make.

Is a third-level education necessary for success?

College and Success in Life

It is very difficult to answer the claim that a person needs a university education to be successful in life
because success in life means different things to different people. This essay starts by defining three
different ideas of success. Following this, it looks at which types of success are dependent on a
university education.

Success in life can be achieved in different ways. Many magazines and television programmers tell us
that success means having a lot of money, having a fulfilling career, and being powerful. In contrast,
most religious and spiritual organizations claim that success means finding spiritual happiness and being
at peace with God and with yourself. Another idea of success focuses on relationships - being
surrounded by people who love you and care about you, spending time with family and friends.

A university education can help you achieve some types of success, but it makes little or no difference to
whether or not you are successful in other areas of life. Undoubtedly, a university education is essential
if you want to have a career in a profession such as law, engineering, teaching, or medicine. However,
you do not need a university degree to become a wealthy and powerful movie star, sports star or
businessperson. In fact, a university education does not generally enable you to achieve spiritual
happiness, or to have successful relationships with family and friends.

In conclusion, there are many different types of success. A university education may help you to achieve
professional success in some careers. However, it will not help you to achieve success in other areas of
your life such as your spiritual life or your relationships.

In the fight against crime, police forces and governments are increasingly using security cameras in
public places. Some people are opposed to this, saying that it invades our privacy. What do you think?

Security Cameras and Privacy

Does the individual have a right to privacy?

Security cameras have become ubiquitous in many countries. Whereas before they appeared only in
banks and at high-security areas, they are now entering public places such as malls, streets, stadiums and
transport. Many people feel this affects their privacy. This essay will examine whether the advantages of
these camera outweigh their negative impact.

Surveillance cameras have several benefits. An obvious benefit is that the police can catch criminals in
the act, thus reduce crime. This will make the streets safer for ordinary people. A more important point is
that criminals, particularly young offenders or petty criminals will be deterred. They will not be tempted
to carry out crimes, and thus society will be a lot safer. Cameras are also cost-effective and unobtrusive.
Authorities do not need to spend large amounts of money on police.

However, security cameras are far from being a perfect solution. The biggest objection concerns privacy.
Many people feel that they should be free to travel or move around a shop, mall, street or country
without being photographed or recorded. They feel that being watched constantly is like being in a jail,
and that ordinary people are losing their freedom because of these devices. Another point is that
although the police say that only criminals have something to fear from the cameras, many people do not
trust governments with too much information. Corrupt authorities could use information in the wrong
way or twist it to victimize some groups. Thirdly, cameras and computers can make mistakes.
In conclusion, although there are definite advantages to using surveillance devices such as cameras, we
need to balance the need for security with respect for the individuals privacy and freedom. If we do not
trust the members of society, a situation like George Orwells 1984 could be the result.

Should governments spend money on art, when they have so many other important issues and concerns?

Spending on Art ( )

Art is a basic human need. Governments have a responsibility to spend money on art for their citizens.

Throughout the ages, man has tried to create beauty through painting, music, sculpture and other artistic
expression. It seems to be a basic need of humans to surround them with art. However some people feel
that government money spent on art is wasted, particularly when there are so many other demands on it.
This essay will examine the conflict between those who say art is important and those who feel it a
waste of money. ( )

It can be wrong for governments to spend large sums of money on art. Too often, governments spend
unwisely. They spend money on art not because a picture is good or a museum is needed, but for
political reasons. Cities end up with huge status or empty expensive buildings that are used only by a
few people or the elite. Another point is that the artworks are often chosen to represent social or political
rather that artistic ideas. The city gets yet another statue of the leader or an ugly monument to national
aspirations. A third point is that governments often respond to fashions, and tastes in art can change very
rapidly. Without careful advice an expensive collection of worthless paintings or tasteless productions
can be the result.

However, it would be wrong to say that governments should not spend any money at all on art. Painters,
musicians, and composers cannot survive without financial support. Rich people or large companies do
finance art, but then it is often inaccessible to ordinary people. Governments have a duty to make this
art available to everyone. However, the most important reason why governments should support the arts
is because an appreciation of art is one of the things that make life worthwhile. Humans do not need just
shelter and food. Creative people have always tried to look at things in a new way and to make the world
a better place through painting, music, poetry, calligraphy, sculpture, dance, and numerous other
forms of expression. While art may not make us immortal, it does make the world a richer place for
future generations.

In conclusion, although people do need to be provided with the necessities of life, such as housing
and medical care, governments also have a duty to provide their citizens with something more. They
should make sure that they pass on beauty, ideas and expression to the next generation and make art
available to all instead of being the possession of only the few. I firmly believe that spending money on
art is a vital part of a governments responsibility, and I am confident that my country will be able to
contribute its share to the richness of the worlds art and creativity.

Should governments spend money on art, when they have so many other important issues and concerns?

Spending on Art

Art is a basic human need. Governments have a responsibility to spend money on art for their citizens.
(Shorter version: 260 words)

Many peoples lives are richer because of art - music, paintings, calligraphy, pictures, sculpture, poems
and dance. However, some people feel that governments should be spending money on housing,
medical care, or defense, instead of on art. This essay will discuss whether governments should or
should not spend money on the arts.

There are several reasons why governments should not finance artists. First of all, artists should have to
follow the same rules as the rest of the market. If there is a demand for their music or sculpture, then
they will be rich. Secondly, politicians generally do not have good taste. They will waste public money
on popular art or on their own preferences. But the main reason why governments should minimize
spending on the art world is that there are more important areas like housing, roads, hospitals, and
factories which need the money first.

However, it would be wrong to say that governments should not spend any money at all on art.
Everybody needs some beauty in their life, but not everyone can afford a Picasso or a piece of music.
Governments should provide money for museums or concert halls for everyone. Another point is that art
allows people to express themselves and this is good for society, culture and thought. Thirdly, artists can
be good for the economy by producing music, films, and attracting tourists.

All in all, governments should prioritize their spending carefully, but they should also allocate some of
their budget for art. It is part of their duty to society and to future generations.

When should people be made to retire? 55? 65? Should there be a compulsory retirement age?

Retirement Age

When should people be made to retire? 55? 65? Should there be a compulsory age limit?

Many old people work well into their 70s and 80s, running families, countries or corporations. Other
people, however, despite being fit and highly talented, are forced to retire in their or even earlier because
of company or national regulations. This essay will examine whether people should be allowed to
continue working for as long as they want or whether they should be encouraged to retire at a particular
stage.

There are several arguments for allowing older people to continue working as long as they are able. First
of all, older employees have an immense amount of knowledge and experience which can be lost to a
business or organization if they are made to retire. A second point is that older employees are often
extremely loyal employees and are more willing to implement company policies than younger less
committed staff. However, a more important point is regarding the attitudes in society to old people. To
force someone to resign or retire at 60 or 65 indicates that the society does not value the input of these
people and that effectively their useful life is over.

Allowing older people to work indefinitely however is not always a good policy. Age alone is no
guarantee of ability. Many younger employees have more experience or skills than older staff, who may
have been stuck in one area or unit for most of their working lives. Having compulsory retirement
allows new ideas in an organization. In addition, without age limits, however arbitrary, many people
would continue to work purely because they did not have any other plans or roles. A third point of view
is that older people should be rewarded by society for their lifes labor by being given generous pensions
and the freedom to enjoy their leisure.

With many young people unemployed or frustrated in low-level positions, there are often calls to
compulsorily retire older workers. However, this can affect the older individuals freedom - and right - to
work and can deprive society of valuable experience and insights. I feel that giving workers more
flexibility and choice over their retirement age will benefit society and the individual.

Drug abuse is becoming a problem in our society. What are the causes of this and what are some
solutions?

Drug Abuse: Problems and Solutions

Drug abuse is life in many countries. Billions of dollars are spent internationally preventing drug use,
treating addicts, and fighting drug-related crime. Although drugs threaten many societies, their effects
can also be combated successfully. This essay looks at some of the effects of drug use on society, and
suggests some solutions to the problem.

Drug abuse causes multiple problems for countries and communities. The medical and psychological
effects are very obvious. Addicts cannot function as normal members of society. They neglect or abuse
their families, and eventually require expensive treatment or hospitalization. The second effect is on
crime. Huge police resources are needed to fight smuggling and dealing. Criminal gangs and mafia
underworlds develop with the money from drugs.

However, the menace of drugs can be fought. Education is the first battle. Children need to be told at
home and in school about drugs. People need to be aware of the effects so that they can make avoid this
problem. A second approach is to increase police manpower and powers to stop dealers and to enforce
the law. However the main target should be the user. Families and counselors need to talk to children
and people at risk. Parents need to look at their children and help them to Jobs are needed to give people
a role in society.

In conclusion, although the problem of drugs may seem impossible to eliminate, there are concrete steps
that can be taken to weaken the hold of drugs on society. The danger from drugs is too great to ignore.

Many students do not finish school. Why is this, and how can the problem be solved?

School Drop-Outs: Problems and Solutions

Today, although most students in the UAE complete school, a large number still drop out because of
family, social and work pressures. This problem requires serious action from both individuals and the
government.

Most students who do not complete school do so because of family problems. Girls, especially, want to
get married and start a family. Some parents are not interested in education and do not support their
children in studying. Social problems are also a contributing factor. Education is compulsory but, despite
this, some people do not take it seriously. Furthermore, jobs are available even if students do not have a
good education. The third reason is work pressure. Some families are poor and need their children to
work in order to increase the income. All these problems will create young people who do not have any
skills and who will not be able to improve their lives for the family and the country.

There are several things that can be done about these problems. Parents should be encouraged to send
their children to school. Schools with baby-minding facilities should be opened specially for married
students. The government needs to stress the importance of education and even offer financial support to
students to continue. This will encourage students to stay at school rather than start working.

In conclusion, there are several things that the government can do to allow more people to finish school.
However, a number of society attitudes also have to change if the countrys young people are to achieve
their full potential.

Should a city try to preserve its old, historic buildings or destroy them and replace them with modern
buildings? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion. ( )

Historic buildings present the history, culture as well as citizens lives of a city for generations. They
are also good places attracting tourists all over the world. Further more, they play important roles in
public spirit. Therefore, I think that a city should preserve its historic buildings.

First, historic buildings are useful for studies. For each period of time, there are its typical architectures.
Historic buildings reflect those architectures and materials that our predecessors used in construction. By
studying them, researchers could understand about the evolution of not only construction but also
society and culture. History as well as society develop continuously, the later generation bases on and
inherits from the former and so on. Hence, understanding about the progress of evolution helps us to
know better about humanity. This knowledge can be helpful to improve our lives now and our childrens
later.

Additionally, historic buildings bring advantages of tourism. In deed, when visiting a place, tourists are
always attracted by historic places such as museums, palaces, or buildings. They are fascinated in
something different from their home country or different from daily modern life. By maintaining and
preserving historic buildings, governments can attract many tourists to visit their city. Consequently,
they can get much benefit from tourism. For example, in China, tourism brings in billions dollar benefit
annually, and the government also invests a lot of money in developing tourism, especially in
maintaining and caring for historic places. For many countries, tourism becomes the sharpest profession.

The last but not the least, historic buildings are spiritual places. People often go to historic places for
ceremony or celebration. They come these places to thank for what their ancestors did for them, and
wish good things for them and their children. Nevertheless, people are usually proud of their well-
known historic place. For instance, French are so proud of their Eiffel tower, Egypt is famous for its
pyramid.

In conclusion. Historic buildings are invaluable proofs for social and human development studies. They
reflect the evolution of history, culture of an area. They are places of public spirit and bring people pride
of their city. Furthermore, they are good places to attract tourists and develop tourism. Hence, it is a very
good idea that a city should maintain and preserve its historic buildings.
