Course Title Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA)

Course Level 5XX

Department Department of Computer and Information Sciences, PIEAS
Motivation The goal of EDA is to provide students with an introduction to many different types
(100 words Max) of quantitative research methods and statistical techniques for analyzing data. These
methods and techniques are very important to gain knowledge about data before
formal modeling commences. Exploratory techniques are also important for
eliminating or sharpening potential hypotheses about the world that can be
addressed by the data. EDA employs a variety of techniques to maximize insight
into a data set, to uncover underlying structure, to extract important variables, to
detect outliers and anomalies, to test underlying assumptions associated with any
model fitting or hypothesis test, to develop parsimonious models which explains the
data with a minimum number of predictor variables, and to determine the most
influential variables.
