2) The Sweet Corporation sells baking supplies over the internet. The companys largest
selling product is AA Sugar. The company wants you to determine the optimal order size
of this product given an annual demand of 10,400 pounds, an annual carrying cost of $2
per pound and ordering cost of $200 per order. The cost to accumulate each backorder is
$5. The Vice president of Operations has asked you to determine if a backorder policy is
feasible.

5) A particular product is produced on a fabrication line. Using the finite replenishment EOQ
model, the suggested run quantity is 1,000 units. On a particular day of production, this
item is being run near the end shift and the supervisor, instead of stopping at 1,000 units
and having to set up a new item (which would make his/her performance look bad in
terms of total output), continues to produce the item to the end of the shift, resulting in
a total production quantity of 2,000 units. Discuss how you would analyze whether or not
he/she made a decision that was attractive from a company standpoint. Include
comments on possible intangible factors.
Considero que la decisin del supervisor no fue la mejor, debido a que al producir 1000
unidades ms que lo recomendado por el modelo EOQ, va a incurrir en elevados costos de
mantener inventario. Por otro lado, si el supervisor toma ese tipo de decisiones por el miedo
a que su desempeo se vea malo en trminos de produccin total, quiere decir que la
empresa no est evaluando de la mejor manera el desempeo del supervisor.
