1. Course Description:
This course focuses on developing basic English reading skills that will enable students to read
and communicate their understanding of informational texts for academic purposes appropriate
to their English level.
2. Overall Expectations:
By the end if EAP 1, students will read informational texts for academic purposes by using
appropriate reading skills and strategies and report their understanding of the texts orally and in
writing.
3. Specific Expectations:
By the end of EAP 1, students will:
1. identify the basic structure of a reading text
2. identify the main idea and supporting details of a reading text
3. identify academic vocabulary words in a reading text
4. recognize parts of a paragraph
5. report their understanding of a reading text in writing
6. present their understanding of the text before the class
4. Grading Policy:
Coursework will be weighted as follows:
