VAT 69 is one of the most famous brand
names in Scotch whisky, the proud creation of
William Sanderson & Son, a highly respected
Scotch whisky house established in 19th
century. In 1882, William Sanderson decided
to put 100 of his best blends through a
grueling tasting test and the whisky experts
chose VAT number 69 to be the best blend. In
no time, VAT69 The Chosen Scotch
Whisky became a global icon, the preferred
Scotch of the rich and avant-garde and an
intricate part of popular culture. Authentic to
its roots, even today each bottle carries the
same stenciled lettering used on the chosen
VAT no. 69, the illustrious signature of Sir
William Sanderson and the Sanderson family
seal of the Talbot Hound that proudly guards
the quality of VAT69.

THE LEGACY
In 1883, Sir Walter Millard, a connoisseur and
globetrotter returned home to Scotland to pursue
his two passions Angling and Scotch Whisky. His
quest for the perfect Scotch ended with the
creation of Black Dog - a unique, exceptionally
smooth whisky crafted with the finest ingredients
from all over Scotland. In a flash of inspiration,
Millard christened the new blend in honour of his
favourite fishing fly The Black Dog an elegant,
feathered tackle that still endorses every pack.
