SCHOOL PROFILE 2017 - 18 The Community


Chapel Hill High School is one of four public high schools in the Chapel Hill -
Fall 2017 Enrollment: 1578 Carrboro City School District (CHCCS). The population of residents in the district is
Class of 2017: 328 approximately 71,000.
Chapel Hill is home to the University of North Carolina, the nations oldest public
Diversity: university, established in 1789. Today UNC - Chapel Hill is ranked as one of the best
African American: 11.8% universities in the nation. UNC - CH and UNC Hospitals are the largest employers in
Asian: 13.3% Chapel Hill - Carrboro.
Hispanic: 14.5%
Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Durham are known as the Research Triangle. The three

White: 52.9% cities are home to 16 colleges and universities including North Carolina Central Uni-
versity and Duke University in Durham, North Carolina State University in Raleigh,
UNC - CH and two technical community colleges.
Student Post-Secondary Plans Nearby Research Triangle Park hosts over 130 corporate and government research

Our community places a high value on education and has high expectations for the
public schools. Chapel Hill High School benefits from the cultural and academic re-
sources available as part of the larger education and research environment in the area.

The School District
The district operates four high schools, four middle schools, ten elementary schools,
Ext. Student Assignment and a school for young people being treated at UNC Hospital. These schools combined
serve more than 11,600 students. In 2016, all three high schools in the district were

Student Achievement Network (MSAN).

The school system also offers an array of services for students with special needs and

course schedule. The school day is comprised of 7 class
