Noodle Structures

Blurb: Participants will randomly select a card containing a famous structure from around
the world. They will then be tasked with recreating a famous structure out of various kinds
of noodles. Discussion will focus on engineering principles and creativity.

Topics/Skills: STEM, design

STEM Principles:

Design
Trial and error

Purpose:

To understand how to implement a design idea.

To understand the design process and think through various design ideas to create a
successful product.

Objective: To have participants create designs using prompts from landmark challenge
cards, using STEM and leadership principles.

Goals:

To use STEM principles to create a structure out of noodles.


Relate STEM principles used in this activity to their personal lives.

Time: 30 minutes

Supplies:

Various types of noodles (lasagna, spaghetti, macaroni, rigatoni etc.)

Tape

Scissors

YES landmark challenge cards

Activity:
Have participants select a landmark card

After they have selected their card, have participants work on the task design given
on the card.

Go around and have participants guess what landmark one another made.

Closing: Large group discussion
