SWITCHGEAR DESIGN
Design
RELF switchgear bays are constructed as a cabinet divided into four individual functional compartments:
A busbar compartment (primary circuits),
B switching compartment (primary circuits),
C cable connection compartment (primary circuits),
D auxiliary circuits compartment (low voltage circuits).

The cubicle of the switchgear is made from folded sheet steel, fixed with rivets, without welding. Walls and
partitions form a self- standing construction. Hot galvanized steel sheet is used in the construction of cubicles.
Solid round head steel rivets are used to secure the structural elements. Functional compartments are
separated using internal vertical and horizontal partitions. Internal partitions are fastened to the side walls in order
to reinforce and stabilize the cubicle. Additionally, two-part side covers, made of sheet steel, are screwed to the
external walls of the outermost switchgear fields.
Switchgears can be produced as free-standing or wall-mounted units. The front partition between the dividing
door of the switching compartment and the door of the connection compartment as well as the horizontal partition
between these compartments are all removable1), which considerably facilitates service operations.
1)
does not apply to RELF 36
10 www.zpue.com
Internal partitions allow safe access to switching and cable connection compartments even when busbars are
energized.
In accordance with LSC (Loss of Service Continuity) classification, the switchgear meets the requirements of
category LSC2B. This requirement is met by three-compartment switchgears while the withdrawable module is set
in the open position.
The primary circuits compartment doors are made from black sheet steel. The door is equipped with hinges
and locks which can withstand stress comparable to an explosion. The hinges allow the door to be opened to an
angle of about 135O (170O with regard to RELF 36).
The upper and lower edges of the door were reinforced by suitably shaped and welded
reinforcing profiles.
The switching compartment door is equipped with an inspection window for the visual assessment of the
withdrawable module position and switching operations.
The door's construction enables the circuit breaker (in the operation position) to be opened mechanically
while the door is closed.
A withdrawable module is a system composed of the racking system and, depending on the function of the
bay: a circuit breaker, contactors, a set of voltage transformers with fuses or short-circuiting block. The racking
system mechanically combines the withdrawable module with the switchgear bay. Its frame is joined with the bay
by double-sided locking in cutouts in the guide rail.
The withdrawable module's racking system unit is moved between operating and test/open position by means
of a crank mechanism, which is hand-operated with a crank or by an electric drive when the door is closed. The
operating and test/open position is signaled by position indicators when the mechanism is in the exact position.
Moving partitions in the device's compartment are presented in the apparatus compartment description.
The switching compartment is accessible after opening its door in the interlock control mode. In the switching
compartment are located the withdrawable module and all the elements necessary for its cooperation with the
distribution bay, including: withdrawable module guide rails, movable partitions, isolator bushings incorporating
inter-compartment contacts, door interlock elements, grounding switch interlock and control circuitry socket.
Isolator bushings are mounted on the plate which separates the switching compartment from connection and
primary busbars. Outgoing busbars and inter-compartment contacts are placed in isolators.
Movable partitions with locking mechanisms are installed in the switching compartment. They are used to
separate the compartment space from fixed contacts, which can be energized when the withdrawable module is in
test/open position or isolation position. After removing the withdrawable module from operating or test/open
position, they cover the openings in the isolation bushings and close the access to the energised inter-
compartment contacts, fulfilling the IP2X degree of protection. Between these contacts and the closed partition
there is a safe isolation space.
www.zpue.com 11
When the withdrawable module changes from test/open to operating position it causes the movable partitions
to open and expose fixed contacts, making it possible to connect the circuit breaker contacts. It is possible to see
the mechanical indicators of the circuit breaker position and if the operating mechanism is armed via the inspection
window.
The connection compartment is designed to connect cables or busbars. It is accessible after opening the
compartment front door (if the cubicle is constructed as a wall mounted switchgear) or front and back doors (if the
cubicle is constructed as a free-standing switchgear) in the interlock control mode. 1) In this compartment there are
current transformers and a earthing switch, and depending on customer's needs: voltage transformers 2), Ferranti
current transformers, and surge arresters. Voltage transformers are installed in the front part of the connection
compartment. The earthing switch is equipped with a manual operating mechanism or manual and motor drive
operating mechanism. Its position is signaled by a position indicator. The compartment bottom is closed with a split
floor cover which also performs the function of a gland plate. Plate openings are covered with rubber glands. Cables
are fixed with cable clamps installed on supports.
The auxiliary circuitry compartment (low voltage) is in the shape of a control cabinet and is completely
separated from the high voltage zone of the switchgear. The cubicle has its own metal housing and is prefabricated
regardless of if the current part of the switchgear is high. It can be equipped with apparatuses at a separate
workstation and then fixed to the switchgear cubicle. The cubicle is designed and installed containing: protection
device assemblies, metering apparatus, and control gear and automation systems. It is installed at the top of the
switchgear, above the switching compartment. In the walls of the cubicle there are a number of openings for cable
trays, cable glands and low voltage leads. These openings are covered with plates which can be drilled according to
design. The perforated assembly plate fixed to the rear wall of the cabinet has been designed in order to facilitate
the installation of the apparatus. The apparatus can be also fixed on the side walls. Design and cubicle adaptation
to individual customer needs is possible after consultation with the manufacturer.
Busbars
Primary busbars
A single, three-phase delta busbar system is used in the switchgear. It is installed in a separate compartment.
The primary busbars are supported by distribution busbars which come out of the supporting isolator bushings and
on isolator bushings located in the lateral partitions. Busbar cross sections are selected relative to the switchgear
rated current.
Insulating components
Switchgear bushing isolators are made of epoxy resin. In the connection compartment, the primary busbars
are supported by a support insulator. In order to support the primary busbars and lead them through switchgear
bays, isolator bushings are installed on the gland plates of the bay side walls. The bushing is composed of a
supporting isolator bushing in the partition between the switching compartment and busbar compartment and
connection compartment.
Protective grounding
There is one earthing cable designed as a copper grounding busbar in each cubicle, with cross section
dimensions 40x5 mm or 40x10 mm, located at the bottom of the cubicle. These bubars are connected by bridges to
form earthing system. The grounding system has terminals on the left and right sides of the switchgear. They are
used to connect the switchgear to the site grounding system.
Cable connections
Connection compartments are designed to lead single or multiple core cables in synthetic insulation
1)
In the RELF 36 type, the cable connection compartment is accessible after opening the cubicle door and
removing the switching compartment partition.
2)
Does not apply to RELF 36 type.

PROTECTION AND INTERLOCKS SYSTEM
After consultation with the manufacturer, the switchgear cubicle can be equipped with mechanical and electric
interlocks, which are required by the standards and improve the operator's safety:
1) Prevent sliding in or out of the withdrawable module from the in/out operating position when the circuit
breaker is closed (standard requirement),
2) allow closing and opening of the circuit breaker only in its test/open operating position (standard
requirement),
3) allow closing of the grounding switch only in its test/open or withdrawable module isolation position,
4) prevent switching the position of the withdrawable module from the test/open to operating position if the
grounding switch is closed,
5) prevent opening the switching compartment door if the withdrawable module is in the operating or
intermediate position,
6) prevent opening the cable compartment door (or RELF 36 type bay door) if grounding switch is open,
7) allow changing the position of withdrawable module only when it is locked in a bay,
8) prevent changing the position of withdrawable module from the test/open to operation position when the
compartment door is open,
9) prevent changing the position of the circuit breaker from the test/open position to the operating position
until the control cable power unit of the breaker is connected with the breaker,
10) prevent changing the breaker's withdrawable module from the test/open to isolation position until the
control cable power unit of the breaker is in the open position,
11) a service racking system designed to transport the withdrawable modules can be equipped with a
coupling mechanism, which prevents changing the position of the racking system even when its wheels
are unlocked,
12) a service racking system, which transports the withdrawable modules, can be constructed to allow
changing the position of the withdrawable module from the racking system to the bay only after their
mechanical coupling,
13) a service racking system, which transports the withdrawable modules, can be constructed to make the
expansion of the bay possible only after locking the withdrawable module in the bay or by the racking
system,
14) allow halting of the operating mechanism for moving partitions which cover fixed contacts in the
switching compartment,
15) allow locking access to the grounding switch operating mechanism slide.
The cable connection compartment door lock is constructed to close and lock the door even if it has been
opened, and the grounding switch has been changed to the open position. After doing this, the lock prevents
opening the door again until the next grounding operation.
After consultation with the manufacturer it is possible to use additional key interlocks.
Electrical interlocks:
1) prevent closing the circuit breaker if its auxiliary circuits are not powered; only mechanical opening of the
circuit breaker is possible(standard requirement),
2) prevent switching the withdrawable module to the operating position without power supply to the control
circuits,
3) prevent access to the grounding switch operating mechanism when closing of the grounding switch is
additionally affected by, for example, primary busbar earthing switch can be closed only when the
withdrawable modules in the particular section are in the open position,
4) prevent access to the operating mechanism of the withdrawable module when changing its position is
additionally affected.
Interlocks, except these required by applicable standards, are designed to fit to a particular project. After
consultation with the switchgear's manufacturer, it is possible to install additional interlocks, which operate based
on miniature connectors and electromagnetic locks. The door design allows them to be unlocked in an emergency
and the compartment to be accessed when needed.

SWITCHGEAR EQUIPMENT
Switching apparatus
The switchgear can be equipped with VB-4W (ZPUE) vacuum circuit breakers, VD4 (ABB), Evolis
(Schneider), 3AH or SION (Siemens), TM2C (Tavrida); gas insulated circuit breakers HD4 (ABB), LF (Schneider
Electric); contactors VSC (ABB) and Rollarc (Schneider Electric). It is possible to use another apparatus after prior
consultation with the manufacturer.
A fast earthing switch with an impulse operating mechanism is applied to provide safe operation in case of its
accidental short circuit.
Metering apparatus
Current and voltage transformers from different manufacturers are used for metering. Bay voltage indication
utilizes capacitive insulators or transformers with voltage dividers and SN type voltage indicators (ZPUE).
Protection apparatus
The switchgear can be equipped with a low voltage apparatus provided by any manufacturer according to the
individual needs of the customer. It is also possible to install any digital protection which protects medium voltage
circuits.
An internal arc protection system can be installed in the switchgear. It finds the internal arc by detecting the
flash and when current or voltage limits are exceeded inside the protected switchgear. When these two events
occur simultaneously, the system is activated and within a certain period of time (less than 10 ms) the impulse is
sent and triggers the circuit breaker.

PRIMARY AND AUXILIARY CIRCUIT DIAGRAMS
AND AUTOMATION SYSTEM
Primary circuits
Structural diagrams of exemplary primary circuits are shown in Figure 2, in the technical data sheets in this
catalogue and on www.zpue.com. Depending on the bay type, different equipment in the connection compartment
is applied. Alternative solutions can be implemented after prior consultation with the manufacturer.
Auxiliary circuits
Low voltage auxiliary circuits include: protection, metering, control, automation and signaling systems. For
these components, there is an auxiliary circuitry cabinet located at the front, top part of the switching
compartment. Dimensions of the cabinet and optional apparatus arrangement are presented in pictures 3 and 4.
Diagrams of exemplary internal connections, and primary and auxiliary apparatus for a typical switchgear cubicle,
can be obtained by contacting the switchgear manufacturer.

PACKAGING, TRANSPORT AND INSTALLATION
Packaging
For switchgears RELF type, three packaging methods are used:
a) standard packaging switchgear cubicle is placed on a pallet and wrapped with bubble wrap followed
by shrink wrap,
b) packaging in boxes switchgear cubicles are packaged as described above and put into boxes,
c) maritime transport packaging switchgear cubicles with desiccant placed inside are inserted in barrier
foil and the air is evacuated from the packaging. The switchgears cubicles, protected as described
above, are transported on pallets or in boxes.
Transport
Switchgears are transported as single cubicles. Transport to the room in which the switchgear is to be installed
can be done using a gantry crane, forklift, or on rollers. To lift the switchgear with a gantry crane, the cubicle is
equipped with lifting lugs. The angle of the hook ropes should not exceed 120O. Attaching ropes directly to the
cubicle structure is forbidden. To lift the switchgear with a forklift, the cubicle is placed on a transporting pallet.
During both transport and installation of the switchgear cubicle, special care should be taken to not to damage the
paintwork and steel sheet enclosures. Primary apparatus, such as circuit breakers, contactors, and withdrawable
modules, and low voltage devices sensitive to vibrations, are transported separately in the manufacturers' original
packages.
Switchgear installation
Installation and external cable and busbar connection depend on the structure of the location where the
switchgear cubicle will be placed. These connections should be completed according to the instructions established
by the manufacturer of the switchgear cubicle.
Switchgear cubicles can be installed directly on the floor, on a special foundation frame fixed to the floor, or on
a steel or concrete construction of the facility. Switchgear cubicles must be installed horizontally and fixed to the
floor, regardless of the type of flooring.
In Figures 5a, b, c there is presented the position of the switchgear in the room. The X dimension depends on
the switchgear's mounting method:
for wall mounted, the distance between the switchgear and wall is at least 100 mm,
for switchgear cubicles with a width of 1000 mm, it is recommended to keep the X distance of at least 1000
mm, to allow the door to be fully opened.
Taking into consideration the installation technology, it is recommended that the Y room dimension be at least
1000 mm bigger than the total length of the switchgear cubicle. The minimal recommended height of the door in
room A, for the switchgear with a 400 mm high auxiliary cable box is 2500 mm, and for a 600 mm box, is 2700 mm.
In Figures 6 a, b, c, exemplary dimensions of the holes drilled in the flooring for the cable glands are presented.
They should be treated only as visual aid and an exact position should be agreed upon when ordering the
switchgear cubicle. Figures 7 a and b present the support/assembly frame of the RELF and RELFex switchgear
cubicle with openings allowing for the fixing of the switchgear to the flooring. Figure 8 shows methods of installing
the switchgear cubicle to the flooring.

Medium voltage
circuitry compartment
SWITCHGEAR DESIGN
Switchgear design
The cabinet of the switchgear is made of folded steel sheets joined with rivets. The walls and partitions create a
self- supporting structure. Hot galvanized steel sheeting is used in the construction of the cabinets.
Solid round-head steel rivets are used to attach the structural elements. The outside walls of the extreme
opposite bays are additionally equipped with two-part lateral shields, made of steel sheeting. On the top of the
cubicle an auxiliary circuitry cabinet is mounted. Primary busbars run between bays aided by gland plates made of
non-magnetic material with isolator bushings, which support the primary busbars. Outgoing busbars are lead out
of primary busbars.
The primary busbar compartment can be isolated during service operation by inserting the isolating plate into
the guiderails through a slot located above the door. The interlock control mode allows the cubicle door to be
opened. A primary switch can be installed permanently or as a withdrawable module. The withdrawable module in
the operating and test/open position is located in the cubicle behind closed doors. After opening the door it is
possible to rack it out into the isolation position. Mechanical indicators of the circuit breaker and arming of the
operating mechanism position are visible through the inspection window.
In accordance with LSC (Loss of Service Continuity) classification, the RXD switchgear cubicle meets the criteria
of the LSC2A category. Non-compartment double module switchgear cubicles meet this requirement when the
withdrawable module is set in the open position. When undergoing service, the high-voltage power supply cables
of the bay must be de-energised and grounded, and the circuit should be disconnected and isolated (physically and
electrically) from the primary busbars. The primary busbars may be energized. The terminals for the connecting
cables or busbars are located on the lower part of the cubicle. Also installed in this location: current transformers, a
grounding switch and, depending on operation needs, optional: voltage transformers, Ferranti current
transformers and surge arresters. The grounding switch is equipped with a manual operating mechanism. Its
position is signaled by a position indicator. The bottom of the cubicle is closed with a split floor cover which is also a
gland plate. Plate openings are covered by rubber glands. Cable clamp supports and assembly supports for
installation of Ferranti current transformers are mounted on the bottom of the cubicle.
48 www.zpue.com
The cubicle doors are made from steel sheeting. The door is equipped with hinges and locks, which withstand
stress comparable to an explosion. Hinges enable the door to be opened widely, at an angle of about 135O. The
door is reinforced with suitably shaped and welded reinforcing profiles. The cubicle door is equipped with an
inspection window which enables the visual assessment of the withdrawable module's position and switching
operations. The construction of the door enables the circuit breaker (when in the operating position) to be
mechanically switched off while the door is closed.
The withdrawable module is a system composed of a racking system and, depending on the bay function: a
circuit breaker, contactor, a set of voltage transformers with fuses, or short-circuiting block. The racking system
mechanically attaches the withdrawable module to the switchgear bay. Its frame is coupled with the bay by double-
sided locking in cutouts in the guide rail.
The withdrawable module's racking system unit is moved between the operating and test/open positions by
means of hand- or electric-driven crank mechanism, when the door is closed. The operating and test/open
positions are indicated using position indicators when the mechanism is in the exact position.
The auxiliary circuitry compartment (low voltage compartment) is constructed as a control cabinet and is utterly
isolated from the high voltage zone of the switchgear. The cabinet has a separate steel housing and can be
prefabricated independent of the switchgear's high current part. The cabinet is designed for installation of:
protection device assemblies, metering apparatus and control gear, and automation systems. The cabinet is
mounted on the roof of the switchgear cubicle. There are openings for cable trays, cable glands and low voltage
leads in the bottom, side, and back walls of the cabinet. These openings are covered with plates, which can be
drilled according to design. A perforated assembly plate fixed to the back wall of the cabinet was designed for
apparatus installation. The apparatus can also be fixed to the side-walls of the cubicle. It is possible to modify the
cabinet's design to the customer's needs after consultation with the manufacturer.
Busbars
Primary busbars
A single, three-phase busbar system is used as a primary busbar in the switchgear and is located in the top, back
part of the cubicle (see Figure 1a, b, c. Bay equipment). There are also selected copper flat bars with rounded
edges, that have cross sections corresponding to the switchgear's rated voltage. The primary busbars are
supported on distribution busbars and isolator bushings located in the lateral partitions.
Distribution busbars
Distribution busbars are made from flat bars with rounded edges, which have cross sections corresponding to the
switchgear's rated voltage.
Insulating components
Epoxy resin bushings are used in the switchgear. These are support bushings, which support the primary busbars
and isolator bushings, allowing busbars to run through switchgear bays, each mounted in gland plates in the bay
side-walls.
www.zpue.com 49
Protective grounding
Each cubicle has a grounding cable in the form of a copper busbar with a cross-section of 40x5 mm located at
the bottom, back of the cubicle. To form the grounding system, these busbars are connected by bridges between
separate cubicles. The grounding system ends with terminals on the left and right sides of the switchgear cubicle.
They are used as a connection to the site grounding system.
Cable connections
Connection compartments are constructed to connect single or multiple core cables in synthetic insulation.
After prior consultation with the manufacturer, the switchgear cubicle can be equipped with mechanical and
electric interlocks required by standards and to improve operator safety, such as:
Mechanical interlocks:
1) Prevent the withdrawable module from sliding in or out of the in/out operating position when the
circuit breaker is closed (standard requirement),
2) allow closing and opening of the circuit breaker only in its test/open operating position (standard
requirement),
3) allow closing the grounding switch only in the test/open or withdrawable module isolation positions,
4) prevent switching the position of the withdrawable module from the test/open to operating position if the
grounding switch is closed,
5) prevent opening the switching compartment door if the withdrawable module is in the operating or
intermediate positions,
6) prevent opening the cable compartment door if the grounding switch is open (does not apply to RXD36),
7) prevent changing the breaker's withdrawable module from the test/open position to the isolation position until
the control cable power unit of the breaker is in the open position,
8) a service racking system designed to transport withdrawable modules can be equipped with a coupling
mechanism, which prevents changing the position of the racking system even when its wheels are unlocked
(optional),
9) a service racking system, which transports the withdrawable modules, can be constructed to allow changing
the position of the withdrawable module from the racking system to the bay only after their mechanical
coupling (optional),
10) a service racking system, which transports the withdrawable modules, can be constructed to make the
expansion of the bay possible only after locking the withdrawable module in the bay or by the racking system
(optional),
11) allow halting the operating mechanism of moving partitions which cover the fixed contacts in the switching
compartment,
After consultation with the manufacturer it is possible to use additional key interlocks.
Electrical interlocks:
1) prevent closing the circuit breaker if its auxiliary circuits are not powered; only mechanical opening of the
circuit breaker is possible (standard requirement),
2) prevent switching the withdrawable module to the operating position without the power supply to the control
circuits,
3) prevent access to the grounding switch operating mechanism when closing of the grounding switch is
additionally affected by, for example, the primary busbar grounding switch can be closed only when the
withdrawable modules in that particular section are in the test/isolation position,
4) prevent access to the operating mechanism of the withdrawable module when changing its position is
additionally affected
5) prevent opening of the door when the grounding switch is in the open position.
50 www.zpue.com
Interlocks, except those required by applicable standards, are designed to fit to a particular project. After
consultation with the switchgear's manufacturer, it is possible to install additional interlocks, which operate based
on miniature connectors and electromagnetic locks. The door design allows unlocking them in case of emergency
and access to the compartment when it is needed.
SWITCHGEAR EQUIPMENT
Switching apparatus
The switchgear can be equipped with VB-4 (ZPUE) vacuum circuit breakers, VD4 (ABB), Evolis (Schneider), 3AH
or SION (Siemens), TM2C (Tavrida); gas insulated circuit breakers HD4 (ABB), LF (Schneider Electric); VSC (ABB)
and Rollarc (Schneider Electric) contactors. It is possible to use another apparatus after prior consultation with the
manufacturer.
A fast earthing switch is used with an impulse operating mechanism that provides safe operation in case of its
accidental short circuit (does not apply to RXD 36).
Metering apparatus
Current and voltage transformers from different manufacturers are used for metering. Bay voltage indication
uses capacitive insulators or transformers with voltage dividers and SN type voltage indicators (ZPUE).
Protection apparatus
The switchgear can be equipped with a low voltage apparatus provided by any manufacturer according to the
individual needs of the customer. It is also possible to install any digital protection which protects the medium
voltage circuits.
An internal arc protection system can be installed in the switchgear. It finds the internal arc by detecting the
flash and when current or voltage limits are exceeded inside the protected switchgear. When these two events
occur simultaneously, the system is activated and within a certain period of time (less than 10 ms), the impulse is
sent and triggers the circuit breaker.
Primary circuits
Structural diagrams of exemplary primary circuits are shown in Figure 2, in technical data sheets in this
catalogue, and on www.zpue.com. Alternative solutions can be implemented after prior consultation with the
manufacturer.
Auxiliary circuits
Low voltage auxiliary circuits include: protection, metering, control, automation and signaling systems.
An auxiliary circuitry is designed for these components. Dimensions of the cabinet and optional apparatus
arrangement are presented in Pictures 3 and 4.
Diagrams of exemplary internal connections, and primary and auxiliary apparatus for a typical switchgear cubicle
can be obtained by contacting the switchgear manufacturer.
www.zpue.com 51
Switchgear automatic control
The switchgear is designed to operate in an integrated control, visualisation and data collection system. Thus,
the cubicle is equipped with digital protection relays (with the possibility of digital communication) and automatic
control systems. The switchgear can then operate in supervisor control systems and automated systems.
Packaging
For RXD type switchgears, three packaging methods are used:
a) standard packaging switchgear cubicle is placed on a pallet and wrapped with bubble wrap followed by shrink
wrap,
b) packaging in boxes switchgear cubicles are packaged as described above and put into boxes,
c) maritime transport packaging switchgear cubicles with desiccant placed inside are inserted in barrier foil and
the air is evacuated from the packaging. The switchgears cubicles, protected as described above, are
transported on pallets or in boxes.
Transport
Switchgears are transported as single cubicles or as a transport set of cubicles. Transport to the room in which
the switchgear is installed, can be done using a gantry crane, forklift or on rollers. To lift the switchgear with a
gantry crane, the cubicle is equipped with lifting lugs. The angle of the hook ropes should not exceed 120O.
Attaching ropes directly to the cubicle structure is forbidden. To lift the switchgear with a forklift, the cubicle is
placed on a transporting pallet. During both transport and installation of the switchgear cubicle, special care should
be taken not to damage the paintwork and steel sheeting enclosures.
Primary apparatus, such as: circuit breakers, contactors, and withdrawable modules and low voltage devices that
are sensitive to vibration, are transported separately in the manufacturers' original packages.
Switchgear installation
Installation and external cable and busbar connections depend on the structure of the location where the
switchgear cubicle will be placed. These connections should be completed following the instructions provided by
the manufacturer of the switchgear cubicle.
Switchgear cubicles can be installed directly on the floor, on a special foundation frame fixed to the floor, or on a
steel or concrete construction at the facility. Switchgear cubicles must be installed horizontally and fixed to the
floor, regardless of the type of flooring.
Figures 5 and 6 present installation methods for switchgear in the room: switchgear cubicle positioning in the
room, exemplary dimensions of floor openings for cable glands, support/assembly frame with openings to fix the
switchgear cubicle to the floor. It should be treated only as a visual aid and an exact position should be agreed upon
when ordering the switchgear cubicle. Figure 7 presents solutions on how to fix the switchgear cubicle to the
flooring. Taking into consideration the installation technology, it is recommended that the Y room dimension be at
least 1000 mm bigger than the total length of the switchgear cubicle.

3 / Rotoblok RCW
INTRODUCTION
The subject of this data sheet is a two-compartment, indoor medium voltage switchgear in a metal cubicle. It is
designed to absorb and distribute three-phase electricity with 50 Hz rated frequency, and 17,5 kV rated voltage in
industrial distribution networks. The construction allows the cubicle to be combined with Rotoblok switchgear
bays.
www.zpue.com 79
General description
The Rotoblok RCW switchgear is a two-part, indoor switchgear in a zinc galvanized steel cubicle, with a single, air
insulated primary busbar system. The switchgears are composed of single bays with different equipment based on
withdrawable circuit breakers and VB-4W type vacuum circuit breakers, manufactured by ZPUE or another
manufacturer. A mechanical interlock system and electric interlocks, configured according to the customer's needs,
assure a high level of safety, preventing incorrect switching procedures or opening of the bay door before switching
off the power supply and closing the earthing switch.
The safety interlock system prevents incorrect switching procedures and the opening of the distribution bay door
before switching off the power supply and closing the earthing switch.
Properties:
Distribution bays have the following properties:
withdrawable circuit breakers allow switching to the OPEN and TEST positions when the bay door is closed,
small bay dimensions, which save space inside the switchgear,
isolation and metal partitions, which separate energized parts from other areas of the bay,
high corrosion resistance thanks to galvanized and powder-coated steel sheet construction,
a wide range of protection and control apparatus, which allows remote control of the switchgear,
arc-proof design,
easy switchgear cubicle expansion with other bays.

4 / TPM
INTRODUCTION
The subject of this data sheet is a compact medium voltage switchgear ring type (RMU Ring Main Unit), SF6
gas insulated, for indoor purposes. It is designed to supply and distribute electricity in radial and ring urban
networks, industry and in all facilities, where maintaining high technical parameters in a small switchgear cubicle is
desirable.
PROPERTIES
www.zpue.com 83
ACCESSORIES
switch disconnector equipped with a blow-out arc extinguishing device, which in combination with the snap-
action switch-disconnector operating mechanism guarantees fast and reliable closing of the device,
vacuum circuit breaker 630A and disconnector with a earthing switch in the circuit breaker bay,
capacitive voltage dividers,
cable voltage indicator,
fuse-links tripping indicator in transformer bay,
fast earthing switch in feeder bay,
fast earthing switch, which provides grounding to fuse-link on both ends of the transformer bay.
The solid design of the TPM type switchgears assures reliability and resistance to adverse environmental
conditions. Pressure surges, which are caused by internal arc, are eliminated by opening the safety valve installed
in the lower part of the switchgear tank, and is not hazardous for the operator. Each switchgear bay is equipped
with voltage indicators thanks to which an operator can be certain that the isolator bushing terminals are not live.
The mechanical interlock assembly enables opening the cable compartment cover after closing the earthing
switch.
There is an interlock system between the switch disconnector (circuit breaker, disconnector) and the earthing
switch, and between the earthing switch and the masking covers, which prevents incorrect switching procedures.
There is an additional interlock in the transformer bay of the switch disconnector between the disconnector and the
fuse-link striker, and between a earthing switch and the cover masking, which isolates the tubes.

Operating mechanism
The operating mechanism compartment is composed of an integrated direct manual (motor driven) operating
mechanism, switch-disconnector or vacuum circuit breaker, and disconnector with a earthing switch. The
transformer bay is equipped with a stored energy release mechanism, which allows the circuit breaker to be
opened after the reaction of the fuse-link striker. A burnt fuse-link is indicated on the front panel of the drive. In the
switchgear cubicle operating mechanism, there is a pressure gauge (calibrated for different temperatures), which
indicates the correct SF6 gas pressure inside the tank. Neon cable voltage indicators are installed In the front side of
the switchgear cubicle.
Cable compartment
In the cable compartment, cable bushings connect the switchgear cubicle to power supply cables.
The cable compartment is equipped with:
bushing isolators,
cable clamps,
protection transformers,
earthing terminals for return cables.
The switchgear cubicle has metal partitions between particular bays in the cable connection compartment.
The TPM switchgear cubicle is designed for the mounting of the following cables:
plastic sleeve, for example: YHAKXS, YHKX, XUHAKXS, XRUHKS;
In case mounting cable bushings with surge arresters are required, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer.

MV switchgears
5 / Rotoblok
INTRODUCTION
This data sheet presents modern, indoor medium voltage ROTOBLOK type switchgear cubicles. They are
designed for the distribution of three-phase electricity with 50 Hz rated frequency, and rated voltage up to 25 kV in
industrial distribution networks. Switchgears are configured from single typical modules with diverse accessories.
Information and technical data included in this catalogue allow the designer to build a switchgear from typical
modules. If different modules or dimensions are needed to configure and design the switchgear, please contact the
manufacturer.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The ROTOBLOK type switchgear cubicle is an indoor, two-compartment switchgear, in a galvanized steel sheet
housing (which assures potential equalization), with a single primary busbar system. The switchgear is equipped
with an advanced air insulated switchgear apparatus. The cubicle has separated primary busbars and cable
compartments, while the arc-proof design ensures a high level of operator safety.

long operation without the need for service and maintenance operations,
high corrosion resistance: the switchgear cubicle structure is made from sheets covered with a layer of zinc-
aluminum alloy,
universality in designing different switchgear configurations with any number of bays,
advanced and reliable switchgear apparatus including the disconnectors and GTR type disconnectors (ZPUE),
VB-4S circuit breakers (ZPUE) or circuit breakers from other manufacturers,
the possibility to mount the switchgear cubicle on the wall helps to save space in the distribution room, which is
important during modernization and expansion of existing switchgears,
quick and easy access to monitor and maintain the switchgear units,
simple operation.

CONSTRUCTION OF CUBICLES TYPE ROTOBLOK
Each bay construction is composed of elements made from galvanized steel sheets and bolted or riveted. Each
bay design allows easy integration into any switchgear set, as well as quick dismantling (for example, in order to
install a single cell) and custom reconfiguration. Bays can be made broader than their standard dimensions. This is
a very useful solution, for example, while replacing old, large-size switchgears (for example, RUe, M20) with the
Rotoblok switchgear, which can result in some difficulties with the arrangement of old cables.
Each bay has two compartments, i.e. a frame and the main disconnector shaft, which form a mechanical and
electrical partition between the lower part of the switchgear and the primary busbar. After opening the bay door, it
is impossible to touch the primary busbar. Each bay is equipped with a bottom earthing switch (in the transformer
bay it is situated under the fuse bases).
Each bay has a mechanical interlock system, which fulfils two primary tasks:
prevents opening the door of any compartment before switching off the power supply and closing the
grounding switch; as a result it prevents electric shock,
maintaining the order of the switching operations.
Capacitive voltage dividers allow the voltage to be checked, and for safe chamfering from the front side of the
bay, i.e. by a low voltage bipolar indicator without the need to open the door. In addition, inspection windows
installed in the door allow the observation of each element in the bay, for example, the compartment, open circuits,
condition of fuse links, interrupters, links, etc.
An auxiliary circuits compartment is located at the top of the circuit breaker bay. Here, auxiliary bay elements
are installed, such as: clamping slats, relays, batteries, additional (or primary) interlock modules, etc.

CONTROL CABLE CHART:
AUXILIARY CIRCUITS COMPARTMENT
Mounted in an auxiliary circuits compartment (17) are control bars, protection units, a control-metering unit,
and switches. Based on the client-provided documentation, the manufacturer determines the position of the
auxiliary circuit units in the switchgear. Cables and auxiliary circuits are led through the cable trays inside the
compartment, and next through chokes outside the compartment. The auxiliary circuits in the remaining
compartments are in protection tubes. The circular circuits between adjacent bays are in trays. It is recommended
that auxiliary circuit cables be led from respective distribution bays to control room through the cable channel or on
cable ladders installed on the walls.
Figures 1, 2, and 3 present optional cable tray performance. The tray depth for dry and oil-filled cables should
be made in order to accommodate the radius of the cable, depending on its outside diameter, which determines the
degree to which it can be bent, according to PBUE. It is possible to avoid the use of a cable tray, or reduce its depth,
by using a high base or elevated floor.
