Since the first time I saw a Linux distribution boot up, I was keen on finding out what made
it so fast. In the quest to answer this question, this question morphed into finding out what
made computers fast. This lead me into researching parallel computing, computer
architecture and operating systems. I've taken up MOOCs on Programming Heterogeneous
Platforms, Algorithms, Computer Architecture. I opted for a research internship after my 4th
semester at IISc, Bangalore where I was introduced to Dataflow Computing and
implemented programs to evaluate Artificial Neural Networks on GPUs. This helped me
understand the importance of High Performance Computing in the industry as an enabler of
other fields, as a third pillar of science.

3. The trends in the high performance industry have been set by the requirements of fields with
compute intensive workloads such as soft computing, simulation etc. As college students,
we have the experience of running such computationally demanding, yet smaller programs
on our PCs. We believe that, by participating in this event, learn the demands of and
solutions to real world applications. Preparing for this contest would teach us the Hardware
and Software interplay that helps in extracting the last clockcycle from a system, the
scalability and pertinency of certain solutions, and taking back this knowledge and applying
to accelerate research in our respective fields.
4. Our team has all the people requried for assembling a cluster. We have 4 people from
Computer Science, who have experience with competetive programming, Linux system
administration, networking, parallel computing and computer architecture. We have 2
people from an electronics background who specialise in hardware and VLSI. This would
help us as a team to understand the Hardware Software interplay, and put together a winning
System.
5. Will write this based on experience.
6. Since this is our 6th semester together, all of the team members have known each other for 2
and half years and are at great communicating our thoughts effectively. This would help the
team to brainstorm with ease. The team's hardware and software expertise complement each
other in optimising the application, /*ANYTHING ELSE? */
7. Sanjay Srivallabh :- Has experience in programming heterogeneous systems in CUDA, and
optimising the access patterns of CPU programs. Experience with using the *NIX command
line for system administration (incl. building programs from source etc. ).
8. Write this based on experience.
9. Ruchir's answer here
10. We'll run Windows 10 on Arch Linux ;-).
11. LOL. Our College has a cluster in Chemical department , and a cluster in Goa which can be
used on request by all campuses.
