Design Standards

In making the design for the conveyor of glass manufacturing plant, there are standards

set by an organization that we considered during its design process. For the steel that will be used

for constructing the body of the conveyor we use the Philippine National Standards. For the V-

belts we used the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS). International Organization for

Standardization (ISO) for conveyor pulleys, belts, fasteners and bearings. For the electric motor

we used the standards developed by the International Electrotechnical Commision.

Steel- PNS 49:2002

V- Belt- JIS K 6323:1995 (Classical V-belts for Power Transmission)

Hex Bolt- ISO 4032

Hex Nut- ISO 4033

Hex Cap Screw- ISO 4014 and ISO 4017

Ball Bearing- ISO/TC 4/SC 12

Conveyor Belt- ISO 4195: 2012

Conveyor Pulley- ISO/TC 41/SC 3

Electric Motor- IEC 60034-2-1:2014

Design Constraints

The research constraints chosen by the researchers are presented in this section.

Manufacturability, Sustainability, and Economic are the chosen constraints of the researchers.

The researchers presented also parameters to define how important each of the research

constraints together with the international standards that could support the chosen parameters.
These data will be used in the Pugh matrix analysis in which the researchers will compare

the two designs presented in terms of the constraints and parameters formulated by them.

Manufacturability- Refers to the level of simplicity of manufacturing the design product by

using non-complicated techniques and locally available materials in the building process.

Effectiveness of the machine- the degree of successfulness of the machine in producing

its desired output.

Availability of Materials- the quality of the materials needed that are available and can

easily be purchased in the local in building the design

Simplicity of building the machine- the capability of the machine to be built easily

using simple techniques and materials.

Economical- refers to creating an efficient machine with lesser amount of money, time and

effort spent.

Sustainability- refers to the degree of the machine to which it can sustain its good quality and

performance while being in a constant change from time to time through upgrading.

Robustness of the machine- refers to the durability of the machine and being able to

withstand a good operating condition without signs of failure.

Estimated lifespan- refers to the duration of time a machine can operate efficiently.

Upgradability- refers to capability of the machine to be improved based on the

technological trends in the community while maintaining its general characteristics.
