Item 2a - Animation of the Earth Passing through---------TRT 10:00

the Leonid Meteor Shower

This package includes animation of the Earth passing through the

Leonid meteor shower and scientists conducting a balloon
experiment in which a camera attached to an aloft balloon will
photograph the shower. Interviews follow with scientists from
NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, AL.

Item 2b - Leonid Animation

A multinational team of astrobiologists are using two U.S. Air

Force planes as a platform to view the annual Leonid meteor shower
this week. The 1999 Leonid Multi-instrument Airborne Campaign
(MAC), a mission jointly funded by NASA and the U.S. Air Force,
has been designed to fly over the longitudes of Europe and the
Middle East to observe for three nights, from Nov. 16-18, 1999.

ITEM 4 - SPACE SHUTTLE STS-103 TERMINAL COUNTDOWN--------TRT

DEMONSTRATION TEST (TCDT) & PAD Q & A (replay)

The STS-103 crew answered questions from reporters at the launch

pad at Kennedy Space Center today. Live event occurred at 1:00
pm, item will replay in the video file for the remainder of the
day.

ITEM 5 - EXPLOSIVE GALAXY - CHANDRA X-RAY TELESCOPE IMAGE

Chandra¹s new X-ray image of the distant galaxy 3C295 shows it as

an explosive galaxy ‹- possibly the result of being enveloped by a
vast gas cloud containing more than 100 galaxies. Astronomers
believe an excess of matter falling into a massive black hole
triggered the explosion -‹ hurling an enormous release of energy
back into the gas cloud. This energy, or X-radiation, is
highlighted in white in this colorized image.

ITEM 6 - TRACE IMAGE OF MERCURY TRANSITING THE SUN (replay)

NASA's Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE) provided a

unique perspective on the celestial encounter between Mercury and
the Sun just before sunset on Nov. 15, 1999. The transits are
relatively rare, averaging only 13 per century. The transit was a
unique opportunity for those conducting solar research and will
permit better measurements of the solar atmosphere, or corona.
