There are errors in Oracle Release 10.2.0 that can be eliminated by
importing a patch set.

For Oracle 10.2, also refer to Note 841728.

Note 841728 describes workarounds for known errors that may occur during
the software installation of Oracle 10.2. If you have problems either
installing Oracle software on your system or installing a patch set or a
patch, first check this note to see if it contains a solution.

Caution: Oracle 10.2.0.2

See Note 964858 to avoid incorrect result sets with STAR transformations in
the BW environment.

Current patch set for Oracle 10.2.0:

The patch sets can be found on SAP Service Marketplace in the

software center ( http://service.sap.com/swcenter-3pmain) in the following

Caution:

As of July 10, 2008, Oracle also provides the Windows patch sets on the
MetaLink again. Do not use any version of the Windows patch set
(32-bit/x86-64) that you downloaded before July 10, 2008 from Oracle
MetaLink. Download this patch set again or use the version that is provided
on SAP Service Marketplace.

General:

Due to their size, the Oracle patch sets 10.2.0.4 cannot be provided as one
piece on SAP Service Marketplace and are therefore provided with a binary
split.

After the download using copy /b under Windows or using cat under Unix, the
individual *.bin files must be merged again to obtain a valid zip file.

Oracle patch set 10.2.0.2

Note: The patch set for AIX 5L 64 bit has been reissued, since there were
problems with some installations. Ensure that the README file indicates a
Version from August 2006.

Additional information for Windows:

You can find further information about the required installation steps in
the Readme.html of the patch set or hotfix.
In addition, after the installation, you can only execute SQL scripts if
the database has already been upgraded to Oracle 10.2 (using the Oracle
Upgrade Assistant or manually). You cannot execute SQL scripts if the patch
set hotfix was carried out in the context of a software installation in
preparation for a database upgrade (the database is still running on an
older Oracle version).

You can find the Oracle 10.2.0.2 patch set for the Windows platforms on an
installation CD or DVD that is delivered separately.

In addition, install the patch collection below for each Windows platform
using patch:

Note that because of the size of the
patch set to be installed, you require enough free space in the file
systems of the Oracle Staging Area and also in ORACLE_HOME to avoid errors
occurring, for example, due to software not being unpacked in full during
the installation.

The patch sets are delivered in ZIP format. You therefore need UNZIP for
your UNIX or Windows platform. This software is available as shareware or
freeware on the Internet under:
http://www.info-zip.org/UnZip.html

If you are advised to apply a generic patch, you can now find these patches
for each release under 'Generic', they are no longer under the
platform-specific patches.
