Introduction

I have chosen to do my capstone project on becoming a police officer and what some of the

struggles police officers have had trying to get to the position they are in. I am going to research

law, crime in my community, what some of the steps are to become a police officer, and do

video interviews with 5+ police officers. I would interview them on what position they are in,

what department they are in, and all the struggles they have had. I will also ask them to explain

in detail to me what their job position entails.

Questions

1. I chose policing because it is very interesting to me. One of the more important reasons

why I chose policing is because I believe that there should be law and order in society.

But most importantly police provide a safe environment for the population. Many people

think all police do is enforce the law but they do much more than that. They help people.

I chose this path because I want to help people and make them feel safe.

2. I have more knowledge about policing than most people because my father is a police

officer. I have been to work with him many times and seen how many things run there. I

have also run GPS on the cars he has been following when he is busy on the phone. Last

year I did a research paper on good schools for law and police programs so I have a good

idea of where I want to go for schooling.

3. One of my academic goals is to get a masters degree in the career I choose. With

policing, I can do that. I might also take a few computer science courses in university.
Policing meets my career goals too. I really like helping people and keeping people safe

and you do both of those as a police officer.

4. When I interview the police officers I am going to video the conversation and compile

all the interviews into one video. I think this will accurately show some of the challenges

of becoming a police officer.
