SUBJECT : ANALYSES/INTERPRETATIONS OF TEST RESULTS (S-387.17) OF

SOIL SAMPLES FROM BALANGIGA, EASTERN SAMAR AND
CORRESPONDING RECOMMENDATIONS

Interpretation of results and recommendations are based on Test Report S-387.17 provided by Ms.
Ma. Celia M. Raquepo, Division Chief III of the Laboratory Services Division for soil samples (Laboratory
Code S-387; Test Report No.283.27) from idle lands with coconuts palms intercropped with mango
located in Sitio Bulwang, Barangay 3, Balangiga, Eastern Samar. They are as follows:

A. ANALYSES/INTERPRETATIONS

Four (4) soil samples were analyzed for Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K),
Calcium (Ca), and Magnesium (Mg). The results were compared to soil reference
standards for coconut cultivation (Magat, 1990). The Results are as follows:

B. RECOMMENDATIONS

Incorporation of humus, decomposed coir dusts, or other form of organic

fertilizers mixed with lime may help improve soil properties, bringing back pH
levels close to 7.

Application of phosphorus-containing fertilizers may help reduce the availability

of copper which were found to be at high levels for the abovementioned soils.
Likewise, liming may be beneficial, as copper becomes less available to plants at
high pH (O'Sullivan, J. http://keys.lucidcentral.org/keys/sweetpotato/key/Sweetpotato).

Maintain the soil pH above 6.5 is recommended for amelioration of copper

toxicity (Koo et al., 1984 as cited by OSullivan, J).
