Gloria Dress Rehearsal Notes

I.

-mm. 1 likes to rush a bit. Violins/viola- dont let the piano throw you off

-mm 27 soprano and tenor- bring out the Glorias while everyone else holds their vowel.

-mm 46 more subito piano

-mm 50- violins/viola softer and smoother. Choir- a couple of pitch issues. This is one of my favorite
parts of the movement and it should be legato and beautiful throughout; think lush. The midi does a
pretty good job of representing my intentions here. Dont let it affect the tempo though!

mm 76 violins watch the tempo! Choir ATB- the subito piano was good- can the consonants and
conviction be even more exciting to compensate for the dynamic?

Mm88- in ex more drive

II.

mm 1 low brass and strings- we could have a bit more here I think. Think powerful, just reserved for the
next entrance at mm20

mm 20 choral more crescendo into mm 20, which is the dynamic climax of the movement

Strings- more accents in our interludes. The tremolo should be atmospheric but also agitated.

Mm22 strings- think lush, molto legato

IV

Good job listening for the soloist. Strings- more legato and lush in general

Overall- not too short or punchy on the accents. I will consider this in my conducting as well.

Mm6 Strings- dont be timid that the wws drop out. Big string forte!! Celebratory. (Midi a pretty good
rep for this) Maybe mark the pizz at 13 up a few dynamics.

mm 22- strings- The eighths should have a driving quality, culminating at mm 31

mm 65 count like crazy. Everything is divis and 1st and 2nds mostly double

mm 95 orchestra crescendo to forte, then immediately to mf. Make sure to carry over from 95-96
without break

mm 135 is in one. Beautiful sound and legato.

Ending- a couple of bugs well fix on Saturday.

Mm 158 is Presto- I would like to go a bit faster- around = 150.

The very last measure will not slow down. Drive to the end!!
