The supply of power means more than just e-mail: carl-otto.klermund@erls04.siemens.de
the combination of individual components.
Particularly in countries where demand for
power is growing at an above-average rate,
there are large-scale projects under way,
2 e.g. transmission systems or industrial
complexes (Fig. 1).
Setting up such large-scale projects calls
for an expert partner, capable of diligently
analysing demand and of planning the
3 project integrally, taking all marginal condi-
tions into account. This means a compe-
tent partner who produces top-quality com-
ponents both for power transmission and
for system management tasks. Such a
partner must also ensure that the systems
4 will be properly installed.

System optimization and engineering
One major task for the system engineering
experts is the comparison and the assess-
ment of various concepts. The basic param- Cost comparison between 3-phase HV AC trans- 6
eters are transmission capacity and volt- mission and HV DC transmission
age, along with the transmission distance.
Having the turnkey responsibility, Siemens
can optimize the transmission system
technically and economically in order to

Training
Customer training is a very important task
1 in project management and our service
department specializes therein. In the ses-
sions and courses Siemens distinguishes
between operation and maintenance staff
training. The station operators are mainly
2 trained in handling of the control and pro-
tection systems and their functions, where-
as the maintenance teams are specially
introduced to the main components.
The training activities comprise classroom
sessions, giving the theoretical back-
3 ground, as well as practical instruction on
site in order to familiarize the customers
with the individual items of equipment.

Tailored financial solutions

4
As a globally structured company, Siemens
is prepared to participate in the financing
of a power transmission project. Depend-
ing on requirements, there are different
possibilities covering suppliers credit as
5 well as complete project financing like
Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) or nu-
merous alternative models.

Service
6 .
Our service activities cover all necessary
checks, inspection and other maintenance
activities. With the use of special diagnos-
tic systems, also remote controlled, the
causes for outages or malfunctions of indi-
7 vidual equipment can be found easily.
