MODEL CLAUSES FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING WORKS

SECTION 77 DIAPHRAGM WALLS

NOTES TO SPECIFIER:

These notes do not form part of the Specification.

Items that need to be considered and included where


appropriate either in this Appendix and/or on the Contract
Drawings as Particular Requirements for diaphragm retaining
walls include:

(a) specified working loads (see Clause 76.002 and Contract


Drawings),

(b) performance criteria for movement under lateral loads (see


Clause 76.002 and Contract Drawings),

(c) types of cement (see Clauses 76.006 and 76.008),

(d) cement replacement materials (see Clauses 76.006 and


76.008),

(e) types and sizes of aggregates (see Clauses 76.006 and


76.008),

(f) grades of concrete (see Clause 77.001),

(g) designed or prescribed mixes and maximum free water


cement ratio (see Clauses 76.006 and 76.008),

(h) method of testing concrete workability (see Clauses 76.006


and 76.008),

(i) grades, types and bond length of and cover to


reinforcement (see Clauses 76.006 and 76.008),

(j) support fluid


Example [The use of a support fluid is permitted provided the
following environmental restrictions are complied
with.(insert any restrictions). The Contractors Work
Package Plan shall contain full details of the intended
support fluid, the proposed testing and compliance values
for the fluid and shall define a procedure for dealing with
sudden loss of support fluid during boring. Special
consideration shall be given to excavation operations
through made ground, openwork gravel, chalk containing
solution features and potentially contaminated land. The
Work Package Plan shall include proposals for disposal of
support fluid to an approved facility.]

SECTION 77 DIAPHRAGM WALLS

Diaphragm walls 77/1 Where Option 1 Engineer design under ICE clause B1.4
generally applies, walls shall be constructed using a minimum of grade
concrete.

to define the grade of concrete.
