1. Construct Rosin-Rammler plot and determine the n and d* from the data above.

After going through a crusher circuit the run of mine material (ROM) has to be reduced to a
size less than 27mm. The fresh feed (stream 1) together with the recycle stream from the
crusher stream (stream 8) is fed to a screen (Screen 1 aperture size 55mm). The stream
underflow (stream 4) acts as a feed to the second screen (Screen 2) and the underflow of
the second screen (stream 6) is the final product. The overflow of the first and second
screen, (stream 3) and (stream 5) respectively, are mixed and fed to the crusher. The
throughput of the circuit is 200 tons per hour and the ROM follows a Rosin-Rammler
distribution with d*= 50mm and n=3. It is further known that the crusher and stream 4 follow
a Rosin-Rammler distribution with d*= 20mm and n=2 and d*=30mm and n=2.5 respectively.
If assumed that both screens are 80% efficient, determine the total mass balance of all the
streams as well as the mass of the -27mm fraction in each stream.

2. Design a double deck screen for the material with bulk density is 1 400 kg/m3. The
graph below represents the capacity curve for both decks. Assume all the particles
are spherical. State all assumptions
