CHAPTER ONE

1.1 INTRODUCTION

Dar Es Salaam region is located in eastern zone of our country. This region among of the biggest
city in east Africa and Africa continent, due this number population of the region seen to
increases with the big crowned of people, and roads, buildings, and other infrastructure
construction increase time to time in order to accommodate the number of population available.
According to this reason we can see how the wastes are available in sites and construction areas.

Wastes that occur to the construction sites can be recycled and then used again as construction
material. Due to large quantity of waste product in construction project can cause many effect
economically, socially, but environmental and health effect is more dangerous. This project aim
to reduce wastes during building construction which will be processed and reused again on
construction. This guide is intended for use by professional builders, developers and tradesmen.
Using good waste management practice on site will help in organization to comply with
environmental legislation, reduce costs and assist in creating a positive image of business. This
guide is also intended to help builders/developers meet their obligations under the Council's
Supplementary Development. Many opportunities exist for the beneficial reduction and recovery
of materials that would otherwise be destined for disposal as waste. Construction industry
professionals and building owners can educate and be educated about issues such as beneficial
reuse, effective strategies for identification and separation of wastes, and economically viable
means of promoting environmentally and socially appropriate means of reducing total waste
disposed. Organizations and governments can assume stewardship responsibilities for the
orderly, reasona
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

Due to the increase of population hence construction projects increases i.e building,
roads e.c.t and during construction many waste material are produced which is case
many losses, financial setbacks to builders and contractors, significant aesthetic, health
and general environment and is too dangerous to workers life. To overcome all this,
Method for the management and control waste material are needed.

1.3 MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The aim of this project is to check the impact on minimize reuse recycle and recovery
and recovering technique on building construction industry.

1.4 SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE

To detect foremost used minimize, reuse, recycle and recovery technique at

construction project.
To detect the connection between reduce; recycle, recycle and recovery technique
and therefore the waste manufacture in construction projects.
To detect the variations among minimize, reuse, recycle and recovery technique.

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

To control financial setbacks to builders and contractors.

Significant aesthetic
Health
Control environmental control
Lower disposal costs e.g. reduced skip hire, landfill tax, and gate fees
Avoidance of waste transportation costs
Greater reuse / recycling of materials on site, saving on raw materials purchased
Ensure options for the use of reclaimed and recycled construction materials, that meet the
materials specification are considered.
Lower levels of material wastage.
Recycle suitable spoil, demolition materials, pruning, and surplus construction material
arising from the works on site to avoid the need to transport materials.
Keep the site tidy to reduce material losses and waste.
Promote good practice awareness as part of health and safety induction / training for
workers onsite.

1.5 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT.

This project will focus on waste minimization to the construction sites. Reuse of that waste
recycled as construction materials and also used for land fill.

1.6 METHODOLOGY

The following set will be used in this study;

LITERATURE REVIWE
Collection of notes from different books, journals, internet.

DATA COLLECTION
Physical investigations in site, to detect the variations among minimize reuse, recycle
and recovery technique.

QUESTIONARE
To prepare sheet of questions this will be answer by engineers on site, contractors and
builders
INTERVIEW
To talk with different persons concerned with this problem i.e contractors and other
people.
