NewsVision Lab Newscast Assignment

Watch two 30-minute newscasts (you may watch an hour if you like) a national
newscast (preferable ABC, NBC, CBS for evening news or any network/cable during
the morning) AND a local newscast.
1) Using Word, complete the following questions using this template. Answer in
sentence form:
1. Title of Newscast: The title of the national newscast I watched was/is NBC
Nightly News with Lester Holt.
2. Time of Newscast: NBC Nightly News comes on everyday at 6:30 pm.
3. Channel: NBC Nightly news comes on NBC that varies depending on your
cable for me it is channel 7.
4. Anchors (including weather and sports): The anchor for NBC Nightly News is
Lester Holt. However, on Friday September 1, 2017 Peter Alexander was
hosting in place of Lester Holt.
5. Anchors attire: Peter Alexander is wearing a blue suit, with a white collard
shirt and a blue and red tie.
6. Where are microphones on anchors? Reporters? The anchors microphone is
a wireless lavaliere mic. The reporters also all had Lavaliere mics.
7. Describe the flow of the newscast: (serious, straight forward, upbeat, etc.)
The flow of the NBC newscast proved to be straightforward. They touched
on serious issues (mainly hurricane Harvey) but since it has been a week
since the storms arrival most people have already grasped the seriousness
and are just looking for updates.
8. What are your thoughts overall after watching? Ive always enjoyed NBC
Nightly news. It is something Ive grown up watching so my overall thoughts
are positive. I feel that Nightly News does the best out of all the other
newscast of being unbiased and delivery straight facts.

 1. Title of Newscast: The title of the local newscast I watched was Foxs
networks Local 5 News @10.
2. Time of Newscast: Fox 5 Newscast @10pm comes on every night at 10 pm.
3. Channel: Fox 5 local news can be found on channel 5 in the DMV.
4. Anchors (including weather and sports): The anchors for the fox 5 news at
10 local newscasts are Shawn Yancy and Sarah Simmons. Caitlin Roth gave
the weather report for the 10 pm news.
5. Anchors attire: The ladies anchoring are all wearing dresses.
6. Where are microphones on anchors? Reporters? The anchors microphones
are a wireless lavaliere mic. The reporters all had hand held mics for their
live shots.
7. Describe the flow of the newscast: (serious, straight forward, upbeat, etc.)
The flow for the 10pm news was a mix between straight forward and upbeat.
The stories didnt have an extremely serious tone however it wasnt as up
beat as most morning shows tend to be (considering it was 10pm). The
anchors had good comments with each other and kept things light yet
informative.
8. What are your thoughts overall after watching? Overall I thought the
newscast was well done. It is clear that they expect you watch the 10:30 pm
newscast that follows the 10pm. The way they do that is by teasing the
10:30pm show at the end of the 10 oclock and not signing off making you
feel as though the show is not over even though technically the 10pm news
and the 10:30 pm news are two different blocks.
