GUIDELINES

1. Introduction

Write a brief theory and explanations to on

a. typical electrical power distribution system in Malaysia (starting from generation,
transmission, distribution to consumers, identifying the actual working voltages
within the whole system)
b. factors that affecting the power and voltage drops along the power lines. (consider
load and power capacity sizing, lines or cables resistance, power factors, etc. State
relevant equations to strengthen your judgment)
c. the importance of ensuring a good power quality supply on consumer and utility
side point of views.
Then relate to the role of autotransformer within the system.

2. Experiment & Report

a. The overall setup is to imitate the system per figure 1.

b. Discuss among your team the gross idea in block diagram or flowchart on the data to be
collected or steps to be taken in performing the experiment to fulfill objective 2.
c. Validate your idea or plan with the instructor before any electrical connections being
performed.
d. Ensure ammeter connection and get approval from instructor again before you switch ON
power supply.
e. You may use provided table or create your own table to record the data.
f. The graph of power consumption trend vs voltage variation of the Taps may be drawn
using Microsoft Excel.
g. Present the results in one graph and directly comment on the trend you seen.
