Course Objectives

To acquaint the students with the fundamentals principles of financial, cost and management
accounting
To enable the students to prepare, analyse and interpret financial statements and
To enable the students to take decisions using management accounting tools.

Learning Outcomes
Participants who master the course will be able to understand and analyze the accounting
information. Consequently student will be able to take financial decisions.
Unit- 1:

Basics of Accounting: Accounting process, Basic terminology, accounting principles and its
application. Journal entries, Ledgers, Types of Accounting.

Unit-2:

Trail Balance to Balance Sheet: Trail Balance, adjustment entries, construction of Profit and
Loss Accounts and Balance Sheet, Computerized Accounting System.

Unit-3:

Cost Accounting - Elements of Cost, Types of Costs, Preparation of Cost Sheet. Standard Costing:
Variance Analysis: Material Variances, Labour Variances, Simple Problems Related to Material And
Labour Variances only. Break-Even Analysis - Cost Volume Profit Relationship.

Unit-4:

Management Accounting: Ratio Analysis :Uses and Limitations, Classification of Ratios Liquidity,
Profitability, Financial and Turnover Ratios, Simple Problems Only. Cash Flow Analysis: Uses and
Limitations. Budgets: cash budget, purchase budget, sales budget, fixed and flexible budget
