The match between Banadir and Gaadiidka football clubs organized by
the Ministry of Youth and Sports was in commemoration of the
International Day of Peace celebrated on the 21st of September each
year. We have enjoyed the match. It was held in a peaceful environment
and under pleasant weather.

Somalias Banadir Football Club wins International Peace Day match

Mogadishu, 21 September 2017- Banadir Football Club defeated Gaadiidka


Football Club 2-1 in a match held at Banadir Stadium in Mogadishu on
Thursday afternoon.

The exciting match was organized by the Federal Ministry of Youth and
Sports to mark the annual International Day of Peace.

The Ministry has been at the forefront of using sports to inculcate a culture of
peace among youth. Football is used to mobilize and promote cohesion and
teach life skills as one of the most popular sports in Somalia.

Todays match signifies the presence of peace in the country, noted Federal
Minister of Internal Security Mohamed Abukar Islow Duale as he presented
the winners trophy to Banadir Football Club.

We have enjoyed the match. It was held in a peaceful environment, said


Federal Minister of Youth and Sports Khadija Mohamed Diriye. Among the
spectators at the Peace Day match were Abdirahman Omar Osman, Federal
Minister of Information, and Ahmed Omar Islow, Assistant Federal Minister of
Youth and Sports.

Everything depends on peace, and without peace there is no life, football


enthusiast Halimasadia Sheikh Omar Elman said after watching the match.

The United Nations established the International Day of Peace in 1981 to


strengthen the commitment to global peace and is celebrated worldwide on
21 September.
