Chester Karras once described the perfect
diplomat as "Someone who can tell you to go
to hell in such a way that you look forward to
the trip." Why is it necessary to be diplomatic,
and when and how do we use language in or-
der to leave the right impression?

Delivering bad news, responding to com-


plaints, giving instructions,... are situations
where a wrong choice of words can easily lead
to ill-feelings and damaged relationships.
