Course Content
This is a provisional schedule. Changes may occur depending on class progress.

Week 1: Introduction on Latin Language. The alphabet and pronunciation. Grammatical


terms, links with English grammar, terminology, word order, translation techniques etc.

Week 2: Text 1A (Reading Latin)


The verbs in Latin (person, number, tense, mood, voice: the paradigm)
Conjugation: stem and endings.
Present Indicative active, first and second conjugation: amo, habeo

Week 3: Text 1A (Reading Latin)


Nouns: number and gender: masculine, feminine, neuter; singular and plural.
Declensions.
Cases.
First Declension Feminine nouns: serua
Second Declension Feminine nouns: seruus
Prepositions: what are they?

Week 4: Text 1B (Reading Latin)


Second Declension neuter nouns: bellum
Second Declension irregular nouns: deus
Third Declension consonant stems (fur), i-stems (aedis) and other stems.

Week 5: Text 1B (Reading Latin)


Adjectives: what are they? Agreement. First/second declension adjectives.
Apposition.

Week 6: Text 1C (Reading Latin)


Present imperative active first and second conjugation: amo, habeo
Irregular verbs: present indicative and imperative of eo
Possessive adjectives (meus, tuus) and personal pronouns (ego, tu).

Week 7: Text 1C (Reading Latin)


Present indicative and imperative, third and fourth conjugation: dico, audio
Second declension masculine nouns in er (puer), in r (uir).
