GET THE GLOW

Lusting after that elusive radiance that renders makeup useless?

Youve come to the right place.

It is a rare woman who has made peace with dull skin.

Not her? Youre in luck. Because here we have a lowdown
on all that you need to make sure you are forever
luminous age no bar!
IF YOURE IN YOUR 20s
It is such a thrill to be young and carefree. That said, if you
are careless with your skin, even youth cant stop that natural
glow from vanishing. Which is why

GUARD YOUR SKIN AGAINST ACNE

If you are prone to acne, take a trip
to a dermatologists office, suggests
Mumbai-based Dr Rashmi Shetty,
celebrity aesthetic physician and author
of Age Erase. Its much easier to nip
acne in the bud than it is to treat the
scars they leave behind, she adds.
REMEMBER, OILY SKIN ALSO
REDUCES GLOW
If your sebum production is out of whack,
Shetty suggests using a cleanser
designed for oily skin types followed by a
lightweight moisturizer. Try these:
Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Foam
(`600); Bioderma Sebium Purifying
Foaming Gel (`1,299); Cetaphil
Moisturizing Lotion (`300 approx); Plum
Green Tea Mattifying Moisturizer (`450)

EMBRACE VITAMIN C
This potent antioxidant improves skin texture, wards off pigmentation,
protects against oxidative damage caused by the suns rays, and of course,
imparts a glow that will make your heart sing. Vitamin C works better
topically for the skin than it does orally, says Dr Kiran Lohia, a Delhi-based
dermatologist. Moreover, to see the results you must use a product that
has at least 10% of the vitamin, she adds. Apply it during the day,
underneath your sunscreen, suggests Shetty.
Try these: Dr Reddys Strea C10 capsules (`1,400 approx); or Kiehls
Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate (`4,500).

Vitamin C improves skin texture, wards off

pigmentation and protects against oxidative damage
caused by the suns rays and gives a glow!

TREAT YOUR SKIN TO ALPHA-HYDROXY ACIDS

Do away with dead skin cells at night, by using good ol
AHAs. These naturally-occurring compounds exfoliate
much like scrubs, except theyre gentler, says Lohia.
Few to try: Sesderma Acglicolic Liposomal Serum, which
features glycolic acid a type of AHA along with
Vitamin C (`2,500); Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion
Correction Pads that have 10% glycolic acid (`2,728).

HELLO SPRING
Its spring time! No matter what part of the country you live in, there are ways to usher in
the season to add cheer and sunshine to your home.

Let there be light

The best way to make way for spring is to have your living
spaces reflect your happy state of mind. It is also time to bring
out the lighter rugs, opt for lighter curtains and bring in green
plants into your home. Each of these elements will freshen up
your interior spaces.
Its also time to rewind back to conventional wisdom, and look
at how our traditional homes used natural resources to keep the
house cool. Remember, efficient cooling saves money, energy,
and improves the quality of our lives. There are alternatives to
keeping your house cool that save on the utility bill and keep the
environment healthy at the same time.

Cut the Heat

Install white drapes or warm
floral sheer curtains. Add
a second layer of heavy
layered pastel print curtains
that will help reduce solar
heat by a good 40 to 50
percent. Close south and
west-facing curtains during
the day for any window that
gets direct sunlight.

Hang bamboo shades

outside the window in
summer to stop 60 to
80 percent of the suns
heat from filtering in
through the windows.

Shady Business
Install awnings on sun-facing
windows, where there is insufficient
roof overhang to provide shade.

Paint your roof white If youve got a flat roof, you
could paint it with a specially formulated reflective paint,
it will keep the rooms cooler. In summer, you could lay
a laminated off-white wooden flooring on the existing
floor. This does not damage the existing floor, and you
can dismantle and stock it aside for the next season.

Shaded Patios

already have a patio feature to

it grows to provide shade to both

warm parts of the day.

Seasons
Green-Things
A tree is more sophisticated than
any electronic cooling devices you
own. The beauty of it is that it lets
the sun filter in through winter and
grows leaves in summer to block
it. If you live in hot climes, plant
shade trees around the house.
Plants and shrubs can be used to
shade air conditioning units, but
ensure you dont block the airflow.
Deciduous trees planted on the

house cool in the summer and
allow the sunlight to warm the

Spread chunky or smooth (as
per preference) peanut butter
evenly on one side of each piece
of multigrain/wholewheat
bread. Slice banana in 34 inch
slices and place on one piece of
bread with peanut butter.
Banana slices should be close

completely (usually it takes
about nine slices). Top with the
other slice of bread. On a good
quality non-stick pan on
medium heat, place the
sandwich and allow it to turn
golden brown. (It will take about

sandwich to the other side and
continue cooking for another 2

Want to connect better with your family? Use flowers in your home decor. Studies have shown
that having real flowers (not plastic ones) around you increases your emotional bond with loved
ones. Use tender-coloured flowers like yellow, peach and creamy white (tuberose, lily, jasmine) to
create a snug space for a new mother. To rev up your love life, deep lavender, pale pink, vigorous
reds and purples will do the trick. Think dark roses and carnations. Ummm...
