Welcome to the Salmiya School newsletter Week Two, where we will be
celebrating the progress we have made so far.
Well done to all the Year 3 Pupils who took part in the Islamic
New Year Celebration Assembly, you all did a fantastic job!

Welcome to the Salmiya school weekly newsletter for
Year 4. Each week we let you know what your child will
be learning in each subject and celebrating their progress.
Pupils are really enjoying diving into this book and describing the exciting
characters.
In Science we are learning all about sound. Next week the pupils will carry out
an experiment to determine if sound can travel through a solid.

Welcome to Year 5!
We spent the first week getting to know each other and doing various revision activities to kick-start our
brains into action.
Week 2 was a taste of things to come in Year 5. We are starting the year with an interesting topic - The
Blue Planet. It refers to water, to caring for the earth, making a difference, life It will pop up during
English comprehension and when doing creative writing. In Math it will be present when we measure
volume. In Science we will focus on properties of materials, different states of matter and solutions.
Humanities will begin with Geography and our topic, of course, water! Where it comes from, its importance,
saving it, where Kuwaits water comes from, rivers, oceans.

Preparing for an interesting and exciting start to the year!
A reminder that it is important for the children to arrive at school on time. The brain is freshest early
in the morning and we try and use this opportunity to dive into math. Children who come late may
find that they struggle to keep up.
Please ensure that your children are wearing the correct school uniform. Its looking good and wed
like to keep it this way.
We pride ourselves in being a healthy school and want to continue doing so. Please assist us by only
sending healthy food to school.

THE YEAR 6 STUDENTS ***CLASS OF 2017-2018***
We have begun this year with mixed feelings. We are sad and reluctant to leave the
comfort of our Primary School. BUT we are excited as it heralds a major milestone in
our lives the next phase in our education - HIGH SCHOOL.
Oh ! the pressure..
We also have our GRADUATION to look forward to at the end of this year.
15
We have started the year revising place value in Maths.
Science has really sparked our interest. We are discovering whats going on inside our
bodies. We have begun learning about the Circulatory System. It is fascinating to
realise that there is more to our blood than it being RED in colour.
16
The book that we will be studying this year is HOLES by Louis Sachar. We have been
introduced to the main character Stanley Yelnats, who was wrongfully sent to a
detention centre Camp Green Lake. This is where the boys are supposed to build
character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five
feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lot of holes.
We have also completed some Creative Writing. We started by thinking and planning
our ideas before writing our thoughts as stories. It was exciting but a little difficult to
let our mind wander and our imagination flow. We are talking and discussing the
topics before we plan and we are doing more exercises to help us get better with this.
Our teacher says that Creative Writing requires all the skills we have learnt in English,
so we are really practising to get to grips with CREATIVE WRITING.
Its a delight to have your children in Year 6. We have made an excellent start to the
year and hope this will continue throughout the year. We look forward working with
you as partners to help your children be the best they can be.

In Music this week, the children across the school have practiced the EPG Salmiya School
Song. Here at Salmiya we are proud to be part of such a wonderful community and the
school song gives us and the children a sense of that feeling. Please find the lyrics of the
song below and an internet link for the music. ENJOY!!!

This time of the school year is a very busy and exciting time for everyone, especially the Physical
Education Department. We have many try-out and training sessions taking place after school. You will
be receiving letters over the coming weeks to invite your children to attend these sessions.
There will be plenty of opportunities for your children to take part in competitive sport during this
school year. If these sports are not suitable I am sure there will be something coming up very soon.
Children who are playing sports, whether it is KFSAC or PE lessons need to be wearing suitable clothing.
Please make sure that the shoes are for sports and can be secured to the foot either with velcro or laces.
I look forward to updating you in the near future with the results of our teams.

Let us celebrate and welcome the new academic year,, Warm wishes to our children on promoting
new level and wishing them all the luck to make it a successful year.
Here at EPG our school community has a duty to Safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
Positive behavior and Discipline are key foundation for effective education, without an orderly
atmosphere, effective teaching and learning.
At EPG we expect and insist on the highest standards of behaviour throughout our school.
Guidance regarding behaviour and conduct is everyone's responsibility and forms an essential
part of personal and social development.
During upcoming weeks will keep posting more about positive behaviour, and how we do support
our children around the school through the year.
