Parts of the Speech
A verb tells about an action or a state and is the main part of a sentence

The cat slept. / That is John.

A noun is a word used to name a person, animal, place, thing, and abstract idea.

The dog slept / That is John.

A pronoun can replace a noun or another pronoun

She is very good at playing the piano.

An adjective modifies a noun or a pronoun by describing, identifying, or quantifying words.

It was a cold day / They are good people.

An adverb can modify a verb, an adjective, another adverb, a phrase, or a clause. An


adverb indicates manner, time, place, cause, or degree and answers questions such as
how, when, where, how much.

The man walked slowly / The dogs barked loudly.

Prepositions are words which link nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in a
sentence

The cat is under the table / He is sitting on the chair.

You can use a conjunction to link words, phrases, and clauses, as in the following
example:
I ate the pizza and the pasta / Call the movers when you are ready.

An interjection is a word added to a sentence to convey emotion.

Oh no, I forgot that the exam was today / Hey! Put that down!

Nouns

Neuter this gender simply refers to nouns that have no sex. (Computer)
Common is the gender of nouns which can refer to either the male or female sex (Visitor)
Masculine this refers to nouns of the male sex (Rooster)
Feminine this denotes nouns of the female sex. (Cow)

Countable and Uncountable Nouns

Countable Nouns: Anything that can be counted, whether singular a dog, a


house, a friend, etc. or plural a few books, lots of oranges, etc. is a countable
noun

Uncountable Nouns: Anything that cannot be counted is an uncountable noun

Write c for the uncountable nouns and u for uncountable nouns

Singular and plural of nouns

Most singular nouns form the plural by adding -s. For example: River- Rivers
A singular noun ending in s, x, z, ch, sh makes the plural by adding-es. For Example:
