TREDTWO Reflection Paper #2

The anti-fraternity seminar that took place last September 18, 2015 proved to be
insightful, entertaining and enlightening. The entire seminar can be dissected into three major
sections which all supported the cause of non-fraternity and other related topics such as anti-
bullying, anti-crime and pro-life. The overall experience of these sessions was enjoyable,
together with its valuable lessons deemed this seminar as a success.

The first section of the seminar (personally the most insightful), the anti-bullying
campaign, was held in the classroom wherein videos on the topic of bullying was showed in
order for us to realize and relate to the causes and effects of bullying. The videos were similar in
composition, wherein a victim has gone through several relatable scenarios of abuse, pain and
confusion, then end with a saving grace of understanding. The videos each gave a message of
encouragement and hope towards each other, and to remind ourselves that we must support each
other with genuine love.

The second section of the seminar (personally the most entertaining part), the fraternity-
victim act, which was held in an auditorium, demonstrated the entire process of a fraternity
recruitment. The act portrayed the desire to join a fraternity due to its supposed brotherhood
promises, the actual process of the hazing initiation, the brotherhood acceptance, and finally, the
downfall of the fraternity as a whole. This delivered a firm message of the core intentions of a
fraternity, which came into realization that affiliation to such organizations are ultimately
pointless.

The third section of the seminar (personally the most valuable part), the talk on the
purpose of fraternities as said by experts on the field. The first speaker, Dr. Guevarra first opened
with a detailed description on the after-effects of a fraternity, which included cognitive,
sociological and psychological effects. These effects are then broken down to lead into
pessimism, bad performances and degrading value in the life of the fraternity member. The
second speaker, Atty Caraan informed the audience of the false promises of fraternities. Making
us aware of the legal complications and criminal act of participating in fraternities.

The seminar was an overall success in delivering the core message of non-fraternity
encouragement. We were made aware of the true nature of fraternities, and the need for this
message to spread to those who are still unaware. Our mission to help others can be fulfilled by
showing sincere love to all we meet. To care for their well-being and draw them to the loving
grace of God.
