Narrative Report

on the
Exposure Trip at
the Ateneo de
Manila University
(Grade School Department)
September 14, 2017
What is an Exposure Trip?

An exposure trip is a trip that allows the students or participants to experience

the real situation in a certain place.

An exposure trip conducted by the Good Samaritan Colleges- College of

Education in one of the famous university in the Philippines is really a big opportunity
for us as a future educators. This is the first time that the college of education
department conducted a trip that would be very valuable for their students. It is a once
in lifetime awesome experience that will surely help us when we enter the field of
teaching.

A day before the trip...

Before the exposure trip, one of the school heads of the GSC, Professor Lea Igaya
gathered as first to have a short meeting. The agenda is to remind us about the itenary of
our trip, what should we wear, the expenses that we need to pay and the things that we
need to bring. Maam Igaya is so generous beacause she announced that she will prepare
our breakfast and snacks.

Before we travel...

It was said to us that we need to leave at the school by 3 oclock in the morning
because the ADMU-Grade School Dept. Was expecting us by 7:30 thats why all of us,
the students, the teachers and the admins come ahead of time. Unfortunately the drivers
of the vehicles that will bring us to the ADMU were late. They thought that our
departure was 5 in the morning because that was instructed to them. Maam Igaya asked
us if we will go or not, but since were all present we decided to go. We had able to
leaved the school at 5:10 in the morning. So as everyone expected, our schedule for that
day have changed.

On our way to ADMU...

During the travel, most of us were sleeping at the van. We just woke up when we
stop over to have our breakfast and fixed ourselves because we are near to our
destination.
Our arrival at the ADMU...

We arrived at the ADMU pass 9 in the morning we are late as expected but were
so happy that upon arriving we saw the admins of the grade school department waiting
outside to welcome us. I can say that they really prepared for our visitation because they
have welcoming banners and some banderitas for us. They are so very accomodating.
They welcomed us in their heritage room. This is the room were you can see the history
of their school. How it was changed and improved over time. You can see also the
pictures of their head masters (principal) that served their school. They assigned person
that will accompanied and guide us to the room and teacher that we are going to
observed. They also allow us to have a short tour on their school. They allow us to take
photos of whatever we want except the students because they want to keep their
students identity in private.

During observation...

I am assigned to observed the Grade 3- Makiling Class under Ms. Sunshine Excel
Carino. They have their formation class during that time. As Ms. Sunshine told me
formation class is a class that is about guidance counselling. It is more likely to a
character education class and it is included in their curricullum. I was amazed because it
is the first time that I heard about a formation class. The teacher strictly used English as
a medium of instruction and the students also speak in English fluently. The students in
AdMU are really bright. Its like they are already grade 5 even though they are just only
in grade 3. They are also very accomodating. As a matter of fact they involved as in their
class activity. Upon observing I can say that the grade school dept. of AdMU is in high
level of teaching because there are somethings that I observed which is not used in
schools that I observed before. The class is very organized. Even though they are more
than 40 inside the classroom, the teacher still able to manage it with the help of their
bells. The bells are use to catch the students attention whenever they started to become
noisy. When they hear the sound of the bell, they started to go back in their proper seats
and become silent. The teacher doesnt need to use her voice all of the time to make
the student followed her with her instructions especially when they begin to talk in
chorus. With regards to their classroom it is very conducive for learning. It has a wide
space in which the students can perform their activities and move comfortably inside
the class. I had observed only for 40 minutes I can say that I have a lot of learnings.

After observation...
After the observation we went back to the heritage room. Surprisingly, we didnt
expect that they prepared a buffet lunch for us. It was so delicious and all of us enjoyed
it. We took group pictures this time and have some chitchats with each other. After we
finished our food we gathered together to say thank you. I am the one who ask to give
thanks and message. I feel so nervous because im not prepared. We leaved the Admu at
12 noon and we went to Trinoma mall after to relax for a while. We stay there until 2
oclock and we went home and we reached Cabanatuan City at 7 in the evening. It was a
long travel because of traffic but all in all it was an awesome and very productive day. A
BIG thanks to ATENEO de MANILA UNIVERSITY- Grade School department.

Observation About the School...

AdMU-Grade school department is a school exclusively for boys. It is is one of

the cleanest school that ive ever seen. Even though its in the city they still preserve the
trees that gives every visitors a fresh air to breath. It is also the reason why many of their
classroom doesnt have an aircondition. Its place is very wide. It has playground for
students to play, a chapel wherein they hold their mass, and a half olympic size
swimming pool for their swimmingg lessons. Its library is very big and organized and
they have a very accomodating librarians. They have a wide cafeteria which serve and
sell healthy and delicious foods for their students. AdMU is one of the best school in the
Philippines for me.
