Learning Area: Science Topic: Effect of Temperature on Solubility

Mixtures, including solutions, contain a combination of pure substances that can be
separated using a range of techniques (ACSSU113)
Students prior knowledge and experience:
Pure substances contain one type of substance
Mixtures contain more than one type of substance, physically mixed together.
Solutions are mixtures where one substance is dissolved in the other; clear.
Solutes can be dissolve in solvents. If dissolved, they are called soluble, if not, insoluble.
Learning purpose:
Students understand that there are factors responsible for why solutes dissolve more
easily in a solvent; more solute can dissolve in hot water than cold.
