The residents of Taman Orkid were unhappy with the condition in their housing area.

The drains
around the housing area are clogged with rubbish. The grass in the playground has grown tall and unruly
and the bushes were wild and unkempt. There were a lot of dried leaves on the ground. There were
many empty bottles and can lying all over the playground too. Therefore, the Residents Association
decided to organise a Clean-up Day.

Last Saturday, all the residents gathered at the playground to get the equipment and tools
needed for cleaning their housing area. A few workers from the town council came to help the
residents. The men and workers cleaned the clogged drains. Some men cut the tall grass and trimmed
the bushes. The women and children swept the dried leaves and put them into bags, a few of them
picked up empty bottles and cans.

To make the housing area safe and clean, the residents put up sign boards to remind the people
to use the playground with care. They also put up a board with telephone numbers of the authorities in
charge of keeping the residential areas safe.
