when you are upgrading from a firmware lower than v1.8.0.0 you have to restore defaults and start configuring the device
again.
You can NOT use a old backup file, as your router will probably malfunction then.
You can restore the defaults by pressing the restore button while power is already on, and holding it for ~5 seconds.
Second way to restore is to enter NO login name, and as password 'admin' and choose to restore from the websetup.
someone tells me to perform some commands at the HIDDEN ADMIN PAGE, but I have no idea where they are talking about.

* Turn off your router for 10 minutes, then turn it on. See if the problem persist.
* pick a channel aboven 6, using channel 11 or 13 should work nice try other if 11 or 13 will not solve your problem

* check your antenna it may be broken, replace it with another one if possible.
You can also disconnect the antenna, go sit nearby the router (1 meter) and see if the problem persist(also try this with
antenna connected ofcourse!)
* try with another wireless card to see if your card is not broken or malfunctioning.
* your house is not suitable and disturbs wireless signals. Move to another house, or replace the house.
used configuration:
WL500g1 with WDS encryption using WPA-PSK AES
WL500g2 with WDS encryption using WPA-PSK AES
between/around them there is at this moment a lot of wireless stuff which can possibly interrupt behaviour:
1x Asus WL300 accesspoint (atmel 802.11b) channel 13
1x Tornado 242 wireless router (TI chipset) channel 11 as it seems (default settings, currently testing unit)
1x A716 acting as client to asus WL300
1x A2500H connected to Tornado 242 wireless router (standing next to WL500g2)
some people thought WDS was limited to 2Megabit/sec, this proves it is NOT.
