Spanish beginning in sixth grade. The study of a foreign language creates an appreciation for other cultures and lessens prejudice. Studying a foreign language strengthens other important skills like problem solving and creative thinking. Learning a foreign language improves our knowledge of our own language. Opponents of this idea may say that it would be expensive to buy the curriculum and hire the teachers needed to make this change. We have to consider this as a vital investment in our students future. Money spent on foreign language instruction will prepare these students to take their place in the global world of the twenty-first century.
