Dredging & Reclamation Masterclass

Course Overview
This 4-day course has been designed to provide you with a complete guide to planning and executing dredging &
reclamation projects. The comprehensive agenda covers all the necessary knowledge of the project stages,
stakeholder management, as well as physical & chemical properties of the sediments, managing environmental
impacts resulting from dredging and reclamation works and how these can be minimized through project planning
and environmental management during execution. In addition to presentations of the subjects, participants will be
challenged in actual project case studies to apply the principles discussed.

Course objectives
Capitalize on expert knowledge to gain maximum value on these vital issues:
MASTER the project phase of dredging & reclamation, the parties involved & the contractual issues
UNDERSTAND Dredging & Reclamation Process and Techniques
IDENTIFY the potential risks of a dredging & reclamation project and MITIGATE them
LEARN about the sediments types and best practices of handling the sediments
KNOW the environmental considerations of dredging and reclamation works
DISCUSS case studies of past and current dredging & reclamation projects to avoid the possible mistakes and
apply the best practices to ensure the success of your current projects

Who should attend?

Engineers (Dredging Engineers, Civil engineers, Environmental Engineers, Operations Engineers, Principal
Engineers, Planning Directors) and practitioners representing project owners
Professionals from port, coastal and environmental authorities
Dredging contractors
Consultants

Course Format
This course will be held in a highly interactive workshop format with Role Simulation Exercises based on real world
examples. Places are limited to ensure all participants gain maximum insight into world class strategic thinking.

Pre - Course
A Pre-Course Questionnaire will be sent to you prior to the workshop. The Trainer will customize the training to suit

started in 1975 when he worked as an operator, foreman and project manager for Konijn Baggerwerken
BV, Netherlands. He then moved to Westminster Dredging Ltd in England in 1978 to gain experience with
sea-going dredging equipment. In 1985, he started his own company and successfully built up an
international dredging company specializing in logistics, dredging operation, developing dredging
equipment, design and handling of deposit areas for sediments and solid waste, consulting for the Dutch
government, Municipalities, Water Boards etc. From 2009 to the present day, he is the CEO of ID
Consultancy BV in Holland, where he leverages on his vast experience as a consultant for strategies in
dredging/ drainage works, logistics, sediment handling and capacity building for government organizations,
international and local companies.

He is currently involved in big dredging projects in the Philippines, Bangladesh, and Vietnam. He is
contracted by the World Bank to prepare a long term Performance Based Contract (PBC) maintenance
dredging on operation and maintenance in the Metro Manial waterways and drainage system including
logistics and sediment handling or recycling. He is an adviser on the different types of dredging equipment,
dredging methods and related transport methods. For the Dhaka-Chittagong Corridor Performance
Dredging Contract in Bangladesh, he prepares the hydrographic surveys and Bidding Documents for a
Performance Based Maintenance Dredging Contract to maintain 53 navigational routes, starting with the
Dhaka Chittagong corridor over a period of 6-10 years. He is also appointed by the Dutch Embassy in
cooperation with the World Bank to prepare a dredging and logistic plan for the primary, secondary and
tertiary canals in the Mekong Delta (Vietnam) under the World Bank 6 project.

Other projects he is and has been involved include: Mekong Delta Soil Bank feasibility study in Vietnam,
Dhaka Urban Pilot Dredging project in Bangladesh, Jakarta Emergency Dredging Initiative (JEDI-JUFMP),
Technical solution for emptying pit latrines in Malawi, Pilot Dredging Project for Jakarta and Drinkwater
solutions for Sudan.
