Choosing wisdom or foolishness. (Proverbs 1:7)

5-8 *Anticipatory Set
min Ask students what can happen if they overhear only part of a conversation? Explain
that not hearing the whole conversation can lead to misunderstanding or distorting
the truth. This is called taking something out of context.
*State the Objectives (grade-level terms)
SW learn about being context, how the books of the bible are sorted and how that is useful
when studying the bible.

TTW lead whole group discussion and ask students to read Luke 14:26. TW ask in
further thinking questions.
3 *Modeling
min TTW give thoughts to the question and experiences.
10 *Guided Practice
min TTW lead the class in whole group discussion. After the topics are covered and seem like
the students understand. TTW ask the class these questions: What does context mean?
What are the categories of the Bible? How can you better understand the meaning of a
Scripture verse? Why is it important to use contextual reading when you study Gods
word? Discussed the other bible study tools, bible commentary, bible dictionary, and bible
handbook.
15-20 *Independent Practice
min Group Work
Students worked in groups to create a Bible commentary on the MV (memory verse) 2
Timothy 2:15. The students were instructed to write out, dance, sing, or act out the bible
verse and the meaning. After groups looked like they were finished they presented to the
class.
Assessment
Formative: TTW walk around the room during whole group discussion, and their
presentations.
3 min *Closure
Remind students to study the study guide and work book pages.
